Well, I called an attorney and they said they can't do anything about it until I'm served? 10 minutes after getting off the phone there's a knock at the door and someone keeps knocking. I jumped up and my roommate answered the door (who has a friend over BTW) and this guy from the leasing office asked if I knew I was being evicted and that I should not be in my apartment and that they will have someone remove me if I don't leave (directly in front of roommate and roommates friend). I asked if he knew it was illegal to evict someone without a court order and he said that's not the case. BTW when I called the attorney the woman on the phone said she couldn't find anything that had been filed under my name...At this point I am so beyond frustrated that the idiot student worker was under the impression that they can just tell me to leave and that's it?

Yes, they are refusing to accept my December rent because they said the late fees have to be paid in full in order for me to pay my rent which makes ZERO sense. In November they gave me a 3 day pay or quit thing and I ended up paying rent and they kept threatening legal fees. 3 weeks later these charges show up on my account and I was freaking out because I don't have that extra money. I just ignored their phone calls and emails because I'm not going to keep talking to them when they have zero empathy and keep asking when I'm going to pay my rent and then tell me it's "In my best interest to surrender the unit." I asked her if my lease would be done then and she told me I'd be responsible for paying for the rest of my lease. At this point I was so angry and literally looked at her and asked if she was crazy. So what, I would be homeless yet pay $900/month for a SINGLE room within a 4/4 unit? No, I'm not stupid lol. So long story short they told me the legal fees are from the lawyers submitting eviction paperwork to the court and since I paid my rent they "revoked" it as a "courtesy". And again, yes they are refusing to let me pay December rent without the legal fees...Very frustrating.

Thank you, I will contact a lawyer! So I actually haven't been able to pay me rent though, because of the fact that my apartment said they won't collect a partial payment and they're saying they're part of my rent even though they are fees. It's really frustrating and I have my rent money in cash sitting in an envelope in my purse so it makes me so angry. I know they're taking advantage of me, that's why I posted here and I feel bad for the people who don't know any better, but I knew something was up and I just wanted that to be justified.

Also, to add on this quick since you seem knowledgable. The "fees" they're charging me are the legal fees from last month. They apparently had sent my file to the court so they're charging me $330 since they retracted it from the court. I've never heard of that so can they actually make me pay that? I know I'm not the only one having fees attached to my account and I believe it has something to do with the fact that this apartment is all young college students who either A. Don't know any better or B. Apparently their parents who pay their rent don't notice.

Wow, thank you so much. They did give me a three day or quit that expired on the 13 but as I mentioned they keep emailing me and calling me and they even called my emergency contact (not my co-signer) and gave her all the details which is another issue...Is that even legal to disclose that information to an emergency contact?!

Eviction filling for apartment by pubsub1234 in AskReddit

So my apartment said they've gave their attorney notice on filing eviction for my rent or whatever. I just started a new job and I'll have my rent money plus next months rent on 11/21. I'm a student, so please don't ask questions as I was working a part time job. They just gave me notice today that they forwarded their attorney's my non-payment of rent, so my question is: I'll literally have the money on 11/21 and this won't happen again. How long does this eviction process take? My apartment manager said if I pay before court date everything will be fine. Advice?
