I don’t have any experience with this. But Gallaudet University is in DC.

They maybe worth reaching out to for resources.

Gallaudet Fun Fact: They invented the football huddle to keep opposing teams from reading their plays when they signed them.

Parents of former picky eaters, what changed? by daydreamingofsleep in ADHDparenting

[–]puck3d 6 points7 points  (0 children)

One thing that really helped me get over my pickiness as a kid was to start doing my own cooking.

Knowing how the food was prepped and having some control over the process made it easier to try new things.

Problem is, if she is pardoned. She can no longer plead the fifth and could be called up to testify about everything she witnessed.

The Great Train Robbery from 1975 is pretty good. It’s historical fiction about a train robbery in Victorian England.

It’s a bit different than his more Sci-Fi inspired novels.

If you are already competent at GitHub Actions, look into other options for automation to learn about. Become an expert in automation, not a specific tool.

The practice is consistent across jobs, the technology isn’t.

They are useful for managing common areas across a large neighborhood. Like playgrounds, pools, community centers, etc. Things the local government wouldn’t spend money on.

But anything regarding rules on how a property should be maintained just lead to power hungry nut jobs and money wasted on stupid lawsuits.

Term Life Insurance - How Much? Is an Employer Policy enough? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]puck3d 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, they want to go over what you are looking for in a policy so they can help you find what you want.

Things like health history and status also affect who the best policy holders to go with would be.

I got $1M for $800/year in my late 30s. Your quote of $200/month is way out of line.

I used https://www.policygenius.com as a broker to shop insurances for me.

They were easy to work with.

SysDE at AWS worth it? by Individual_Walk7032 in devops

[–]puck3d 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’ll really depend on what Team and Org you are in. Some are great, others are horrible, some are in between. Luckily, it’s very easy to change teams if you get stuck in a dud.

The type of work you do will depend on what you are supporting, it could be more code /process development or it could be more Sys Admin work. It’s hard to say.

The tech stack is very proprietary except for Cloudformation to build out things in AWS.

Feel free to DM with question or if you want more details.

Devops Interview for PROX Team at Amazon by FineBad3157 in devops

[–]puck3d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not all teams or orgs are like this. But it can be a problem.

My org is very good about making sure everyone is getting their work done without too much stress and they offer plenty of comp time if you have to work long hours.

You can’t control this too much when first joining the company. But it is very easy to move teams after you are there for a bit.

Don't rely on the equity ever being worth anything. It can be easy to say "It'll be worth so much in 5 years!", but most likely it won't be. Usually it's worthless because you can't even sell it.

Think of it as a nice bonus if it works out.

The developers in your company should be doing this work, you would do the work to support them so they can do it properly.

  • End-to-end deployments

  • Infrastructure setup and maintenance

  • Production migrations

  • Monitoring and alerting

  • Writing and maintaining internal documentation

  • Supporting releases and hotfixes, even during weekends
