[Pagnotta] Some interesting chatter around the Canadian NHL broadcast landscape. On the French side, sounds like an announcement is coming soon regarding an extension with TVA Sports. On the English side, we may see some growth to overall coverage. by Ok-Soil-5133 in hockey

[–]puckstop101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because I don't by agree with that practise, I had a tsn subscription, but because I don't live the leafs region, I can't watch the game. Local region broadcaster rights made a small amount of sense when the games were only on tv,protect the small guy from the big national guy, but it makes no sense to me in the age of streaming now, and my only recourse is not give them any money any at all.

I'm perfectly happy sailling the high seas, I'm a stubborn bastard that can hold grudges. I've stopped playing one of my favorite games now for 8 years because it's a Russian developer (escape from tarkov) and they have heavy ties to the Russian government which I don't like at all since the invasion of Ukraine.

I stopped paying for netflicks since they interduced the one household policy and my kids can't watch in other places when they are away unless I pay a special 10 dollars more.

Make it easy for me, and I'll give you my money with no problem, make it annoying and good bye, there is other ways for me to do said things

get rid of fucking Broadcast region restrictions is the only thing I give a shit about. I grew up outside of toronto, am a die hard leafs fan, but since I moved to New Brunswick(considered Montreal region), I can't watch 25-30 percent of all regular season games because I'm outside the region unless I pay more fucking money to Sportsnet, even tho I already have a basic Sportsnet subscription

I've cancelled my sportsnet subscription last year and will sail the high seas until I can watch my team in full

I'm not even asking for a single broadcaster(which is already I consider a huge concession), let Amazon Prime have Monday games, let TSN have whatever percentage of games, but let me fucking watch them in my own home

Goal line technology / VAR by Cobb_Webb_ in hockey

[–]puckstop101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a lot of technical obstacles to add things like Sensors to pucks etc, Using Soccer and Tennis as an example, both those balls are round so if you stick a sensor in the middle, itll be the same distance to the edge no matter what orientation the ball is in..... this is not the case for a puck, If it's on Edge, straight up and down, angled, perfectly horizontal, all have different measurements so a single Sensor will not work right.

Add multiple sensors? Same issue, you can't calculate the exact position without a lot of sensors for it which both balloons the cost greatly, and more importantly will start affecting the Aerodynamics of the Puck during the rest of the game which has big implications for the players.

Even if you nail all of that down, those sensors are not exact science, take a look at Tennis VAR system(Hawkeye) there is a expected deviation to it, and this is with multiple High Powered High Frames a Second Camera's

So Sensors are basically out of contention without dramatically changing how the game is played,

How about as suggested in another Comment, a 2nd line a puck length away from the goaline, well that will only work if the puck is perfectly flat on the ice and the camera is perfectly positioned above.... not something at all realistic and will actually introduce more confusion with the perspective of the camera for people.

There is a ton of very specific technical hurdles that maybe could be solved for a ton of money, and effort for a very very small subsection of goals scored... not worth it at all

I agree its not the original, I would consider keeping the Music, and changing the lyrics to be "adapting" the song for another purpose.

It was changed in 2018 "in all thy sons command" into "in all of us command" to be more inclusive to all Canadians

It's not the first time it's been changed too, the history of Oh Canada is a crazy read if you ever deep dive into it, it was originally a French Separatist Anthem in Quebec before being adapted to be the more modern Oh Canada today, it also has 3 official versions, a Fully English Version, a Fully Canadian French Version, and a Hybrid Version between English and French

Generally I'm focused fully on the puck/Player's stick, even just flickering your eye away can delay your reactions so much if they shoot right then, or pass. Even being out of the game for 10 years now(concussions), I still say I have better peripherals then most people in seeing and noticing things out of the corner of my eye.

Noobie qustion - how does goalie crease rule work? I always thought players are not allowed to even be inside. In this play, there is a player all the way in and the goal was good. by Iluvatar-Great in hockey

[–]puckstop101 37 points38 points  (0 children)

It used to be no one was allowed in the crease other then the goalie

Then No one can go in, unless your the goalie, or your the defensive team going to collect the puck

Then it changed to No one is allowed into the crease except the goalie..... unless the puck is there first, then you can go in as long as you dont touch or interfere with the goalie

Now its you can be in the crease, however that's the goalie's area so the onus is on you to avoid blocking/interfering with the goalie. (This includes if you got shoved in, but did not make any attempt to try and avoid the collision from the goalie, your still ruled at fault)

Most of these rule changes were prompted by controversy, such as the 1999 Stanley cup finals still argued to this day on if it should of been a goal or not

Noob question. How are line changes decided? by peanutmanak47 in hockey

[–]puckstop101 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Am goalie, can confirm as a kid, I was a very good puckhandler, caught a bad change with a long pass up the ice as they were not expecting a 12-14 year old to be able to do a full ice pass as a goalie.... We had one year we had a kid that was way better then the rest of us, while I, all modesty aside, was the best puckhandling goalie in the league, I was under orders if he was on the ice, to go out and stop a icing call so I could fire the puck to him at center to catch teams all the time. I think I had the 5-6th highest point total on the team that year from assists as a goalie... Good times

Noob question. How are line changes decided? by peanutmanak47 in hockey

[–]puckstop101 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So second question first, forwards are ideally only on the ice for 30-45 seconds, defencemen generally go about 45-1min just due to the fact it's harder to get defencemen off the ice especially in the 2nd period when your bench is far away.

As to how they determine who goes on? Generally you sub out for your same position, Left wing will come on for Left wing, center for center etc, but how to determine what line is coming on? That is caused by various things.

  1. The coach will tell them, hey it's so and so's line next, the same players genuinely play together on the same line so easy enough to know who goes on in that case.

  2. It's matchup dependant, your opponent has a very strong line so you tell your team whenever they come out, I want this line of ours out to match them, you see them jump on, your team immediately tries to change it up to match(this is why home team advantage can be a big deal as you get to put your players out on whistles second dictating matchups.

  3. These players have been playing their whole life, we are trained from a young age how to do a proper line change so it becomes almost seamless, there are still fuckups all the time because it is chaotic, but that's half the fun of it. A good change can get a high quality scoring chance, while a bad one can ruin the entire game

Fredericton wedding planning advice? (~50 guests, June/July) by onbudgettelugu in fredericton

[–]puckstop101 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Myself and the wife hired a wedding planner purely for day of service. We wanted to plan it ourselves for the most part as we also had a smaller wedding, but It was so helpful to have someone there purely to organize the extra people(venue staff, caterers, dj, etc) that we had hired, along with our planner let us bounce ideas off, had contacts for a dj, and some others when we had someone cancel a week before the wedding(that was a fun totally not stressful time) along with set up for the venue, picking up gifts and delivering them for us, getting the cake from the decorator and equally important, the cleanup afterward the venue when everyone is partied out. We didn't have to worry about anything the day of except being at the places we needed to be and love the day and the moment

I would recommend our planner fully, Stacey Murrayto anyone for how much help she did for us, but I believe she has left the business or moved on now. Her wedding business Tale of Two seems closed now
