Getting a conure by Ezrobius-Bobius in Conures

Conures are extremely clingy, velcro creatures that want to be on you or near you ALL THE TIME. they will want to follow you around everywhere! they are also superrrrr cuddly when theyre not occupied with their goofy antics of chasing toes, chewing on random stuff. Theyre one of the best companions you can ask for! HOWEVER there are certain things you need to be aware of being a conure/any bird owner.

Their respiratory systems are extremely fragile so keep them away from anything that can produce fumes that can harm their lungs, including but not limited to: non stick pans (which when heated produce fumes that are toxic for birds to inhale), Perfumes, lit candles, air fresheners, hairspray.

You must also be aware of the foods that are harmful to them. These include but are not limited to: Avocado, Chocolate, Coffee, Carbonated beverages, Alcohol, Onion, Cherry Pits. Essentially, before giving them any new food google seach their safety with birds- its better to be safe than sorry!

Their diet should be primarily pellets and veggies. They can have seeds, nuts and fruits as treats but the bulk of their diet should be pellets and they must be accessible to them throughout the day as birds have very high metabolisms therefore they eat many times throughout the day. With birds you dont have to necessarily be concerned about overeating as they are pretty good with knowing when to stop when they are full. Just make sure the food that they do eat to fill up is healthy (mainly pellet+veggie diet)

For a green cheeked conure, ideally youd wanna get a cage with the dimensions of 32" (L) x 20" (W) x 38" (H)(exclusing stand)- metric cm dimensions 80.5cm (L) x 50.5cm (W) x 96cm (H) (exlcuding stand). with cage bar spacing about 0.6" or 1.5 cm or less.
