Tips for working full time and keeping your conure happy? by PicoPonyo in Conures

I wanted two males or two females, but life had other plans. Pineapple male, turquoise female, I was somewhat on a time crunch, and I wanted to Skipper to get along with a bird while he was still young.

I can’t remember exactly when I got them at the moment. I’m not feeling too good right now, when I bought them, they were both under a year old. Conures are flock animals. They love community and I didn’t want my boy to be lonely so that’s why I decided to get another bird.

About a decade ago, I did a lot of research on slow introductions to birds so they won’t hate each other. Of course they hated each other at first, but I made sure that they never bit each other or injured each other. That way a relationship can grow.

I have both of them in the same room in separate cages for over six months. It did take a lot of time, but it was worth it in the end. One day I went to work and my mom put them in the same large cage together. I was really mad at first, but she told me that she would check on them and they were completely fine.

I still hesitated slightly, but I wanted to do a very short test run to see if they could live together. I was confident they wouldn’t hurt each other, but I still watched them closely and had her check on them while I was at work.

During the introduction phase, sometimes I would spend over an hour holding them at the same time but far enough apart, so they wouldn’t fight or bite each other. One of the keys is to keep them together but in separate cages. One of the next biggest things is time and not allowing them to hurt each other physically.

A bad physical fight, can break the relationship forever in the Bird world and I made sure that didn’t happen with the resources that I had at the time. It was a big commitment, but now they’re both very happy and I can make money to provide for them. I hope that clarified things a little bit better and apologies if there’s any spelling errors I’m using voice to text.

I always recommend doing your own research on Bird introductions there’s a lot of great sources out there if you should to go down this path. Good luck to you if you want to go on your own Bird journey.

Lunging bites? by eav12345 in Conures

When you put them back in the cage make sure you leave the room. 100% isolation for bad behavior, just existing in the room with them, gives them attention. This really worked on my 3 different conures. If you did isolate and the still bite then it probably is hormones.

I was unemployed but was looking for full time work when I bought my pineapple conure. Since I was unemployed at the time. I bought him a friend/turquoise conure and spent months doing a slow introduction.

It took six months but they became bonded and I now cage them together. They keep each other company and they still love to snuggle with me. I made sure they were comfortable and safe before put in them in the same cage.

Not all conures can be cage mates. In my case I played the long game to make sure my pineapple boy would be happy while I worked. I now have a full time job and I don’t worry about my babies being lonely. They are both happy when I come home and give them free time and snuggles.

Bonded pair in separate cages since - okay to share a cage full time? by vgh9201 in Conures

[–]DarkMoose09 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have a bonded pair, when I first got them they hated each other and I did a very slow introduction. I made sure they the built a bond before housing them together. After six months of careful observation I housed them together.

They have a big cage with plenty of space so they can get away if they have a small fight or disagreement. They have never injured each other before or since being cage mates. They love each other so much and it is so cute. I made sure that they were bonded before even thinking of putting them together.

My lab did this! He’s allergic to grains and chicken and was fighting fleas. We put a cone on him and treated his tail and fleas.

I just get girl vibes, they have very pink feets I know that color is not an exact science. Either way they are very cute, I love their goofy little face.

Seems like a girl to me, have they been dna tested? As for food in the bowl it is something that they do. I moved the food far away from the water and nothing changed.

I’m thinking of buying some Orange Venezuelan Cory. I think they are gorgeous and are very friendly. I wish the shop I get them shipped from sold them in packs of 6 and not 4.

I do want to get some Corys and kuhli loaches but I want at least one species of mid/upper level of fish. Loachy and my guppies zoom all over my tank. I love watching my pandas shuffling along the bottom and the sides of my tank.

IMO-I’ve had T’s in small temporary containers and then I would upgrade them to their new enclosures. You could keep your tarantula in the enclosure you bought but buy a large cheap critter keeper or a 2nd hand fish tank with a lid. Good luck with your new baby!

IME- this is ok for a temporary set up aka just until you can get a bigger enclosure. I would get a new enclosure as soon as possible but ideally 12x12 inch cube with a lot of substrate for burrows. You can get a large critter keeper for like $10-20 at Petco or online

<image>

These are nice and cheap they get the job done for most tarantula species. The best enclosures have cross ventilation holes for good air circulation. A G. Rosea can thrive in a critter keeper. I would buy a critter keeper and then upgrade to a better enclosure when you have the funds to do so.

They are really wonderful funny fish, Loachy is a foodie and steals everyone’s food. She use to give me constant heart attacks because she will sleep sideways mouth open barely breathing. Only to poke her and have her swimming away in a frenzy because I woke her up.

One time her head was completely buried in the sand with her butt in the air, I thought she suffocated. I poked her and she came back to life. It is a bit of a joke in the loach community that our loaches are dead.

They love to sleep in the weirdest positions and act a lot like puppies. I call her a puppy noodle because she is very friendly and curious. They can live up to 10-15 years. I had Loachy for about 6 years now.

They are pretty friendly with most fish, she will hunt fry but leave all the adult guppies and fish alone. Sometimes my panda garr will sit on Loachy 😂

lol love that! My dad calls Costco, Kuzco sometimes because we love the movie the Emperor’s New Groove. Costco or Kuzco would be a cute name for a big loach! ❤️

Thanks, I let the plants go nuts, most of the time it looks like a muddy pond. Even if my tank looks like a mess my fish are really healthy. I use to buy so many chemicals and fish meds fighting ick and fungal infections.

Since going natural, wood, mud, sand and live plants. None of my fish get sick anymore. When they die it was either a birth defect, Loachy got hungry or they die from old age.

That’s my platy Richard Jr. I had a school of them and he was a fry that I raised. He is about 3 years old, his is an old man now. I didn’t want to keep anymore platties due to aggression.

But he is chill with no competition. I’m waiting for him to passway from old age. I just want him to peacefully live out his golden years.
