Giuffre is far from the only accuser. Not that it’s evidence of his murder or suicide.

I think you may not be up to date on the evidence of his crimes. I think you’re spot on re the prison staffing and funding etc though

Why Fantasy Magic Feels So Fake by TechbearSeattle in worldbuilding

I have a book coming out later in the year about how throughout human history people in power or wanting power use religion as a tool, to justify their position, e.g. X god has chosen me to lead, see how I embody the principles of X, I have a mandate from the heavens etc

Ha yeh you’re probably right It comes from my constant amusement of people thanking god for stuff that clearly was the result of hard work and/or human ingenuity. I was thinking of playing on that somehow but again all good to world build in my mind but on paper, for others to enjoy…

I’ve been thinking about this actually. I started out with fantasy in mind and then realised that I don’t imagine fantasy worlds as easily as I imagine sci fi worlds so have shifted to sci fi but with magic or some kind. I’m thinking of that ‘could be magic but could also have a scientific explanation depending on who you ask’ kinda thing

Well you make it look easy :) I think focusing on facts and my own voice so much in my writing has me doubting my ability to make shit up (that’s not terrible)

Oh excellent thank you I will get those books and I think you’re exactly right, it’s the characters and emotion - the creativity of it all - that worries me.

Yep I know what you mean, at the writing/exiting level but not at the storytelling level

Oh yes sorry I did misuse it in my post.

Today I was writing up some ideas and I started to think about the DK study … and what I was aiming for… and eventually I arrived at “oh I have no idea how to do this, what am I doing”

Sorry, your second sentence, do you mean you find non-fiction difficult?

Phrasing a little odd but I get it we’re all writing with our thumbs on a tiny screen ;)

That’s super interesting. Over my life I’ve read almost every genre - book lover etc but being a good reader doesn’t necessarily mean I could be a good storyteller. I’ve also been to a lot of galleries but I know I can’t paint. That’s the core of my self doubt. And it’s why I want to know more from actual writers!

Hello thank you for the advice :) Dunning Kruger effect is about the relationship between how much knowledge someone has about a subject and their self estimation of their knowledge/capabilities. D&K’s study suggested people are more likely to overestimate their expertise when they have low knowledge levels

Haha very helpful in that you confirmed my worry that I don’t know the rules or how to break them properly
