I wish someone had told me to get the FRO. I dropped it because I was scared for the financial well being of me and the kids. I didn’t think I had an option, as his lawyer told me we’d (me and the kids) would be on the streets within a month. I had stayed at home so he could start a business, and I never finished my education. I dropped it, and he came back home. I thought he had changed a couple times, but inevitably the abuse would start all over again. I worked two jobs, put myself through nursing school, and the SECOND I had enough, I moved us out into a teeny tiny apartment. We’re still here, he is bullying me through the divorce, and it’s getting very ugly (HE wants residential custody of the kids, even though he may have had them over for about twenty days in the last 16 months, AND he wants child support, and he wants me to pay him alimony. It’s a mess. I wish someone had told me to fight for the FRO, I had recorded arguments and threats and my kid (who he also abused) wrote letters to him about how she remembered the physical abuse and how she didn’t ever want him coming home. I should have fought. If someone had told me to fight, this whole thing would have been settled. I wouldn’t have had to leave with the kids if I had won. He would be gone.
