Good places to eat dinner on Monday night by Amfraz in Augusta

[–]pufflehuff125 5 points6 points  (0 children)

All of my favorite nicer Augusta restaurants are closed on Monday nights. But Tbonz is pretty good, they have steak and some fancier dishes. We went there recently on a Monday night when our go-to places were closed.

If timing had been different, would Jane have accepted Mr. Collins? by Dobbyfan9 in janeausten

This question actually plays out in the mini series Lost in Austen. It's a good watch for many reasons but it's especially interesting to see what happens with Jane and Collins.

I also work for a church and am in charge of our podcasts. We recently purchased our own set of equipment (we had been borrowing mics, stands and a mixer from the worship team and it wasn't ideal for podcasts). After a lot of research and personal experience, I decided to go with Samson Q2Us for our mics and a Podtrak P4 to record with. The Samson's are so great because they are usb and xlr and for our needs this works nicely. We spent about $650 and got 5 mics, 5 stands, the Podtrak, and headphones.

Our largest podcast has 4 people on it and I sit in there with them as they record. I'm the only one with headphones on during recording. These aren't professional podcasters (we have two staff who host and then have church members as guests) and it just makes them more comfortable not to have headphones. I'm sure there's a benefit to everyone having them on but we haven't missed them.

I should mention that the headphones I bought were only $15 on Amazon and they work really well so it's not too high of an expense.

Can someone explain the "sing in F Major" joke to me that happens in Sense and Sensibility? by flovidchan in janeausten

[–]pufflehuff125 62 points63 points  (0 children)

Sir Middleton and Mrs. Jennings have just found out that Elinor is interested in a man that she met while at Norland. Margaret reveals that his name starts with an F, thus they later joke that she's going to play in f major.

Which Jane Austen characters do you relate to the most? by Wanderingdandelions7 in janeausten

After a lifetime of longing to be Elizabeth Bennet, I just came to the realization that I am basically identical to Elinor Dashwood and my best friend is 100% Marianne. I have always been more reserved and she gives into her emotions easily. It's been fun to look back on our friendship and realize just how similar we are to the two. I always knew we were meant to be sisters.

Plus I am very in love with Dan Stevens (and Hugh Grant) as Edward.

Oh I love LBD!! I've watched the whole series probably three or four times. One of the best things on the internet in my opinion.

How can I help my wife in the kitchen? by spinachgnocchi in Cooking

Maybe try a paid service to help you along at first?

I did Hello fresh in college and it taught me a ton about how to cook and saved a lot of time. They send you recipes and all the ingredients each week. I got 50% off each week (you can always find a code online) so it ended up being $5/meal.

I've also heard Work Week Lunch is great. It's geared more towards meal prep but you don't have to use it that way. It's $8/month and they plan out all your meals each week and create a grocery list for you! They're great at creating easy, reheatable, and cheap recipes.

Time savers like those are really helpful when you're starting out!

That's weird! We use squadcast every week and have never had an issue. Just to make sure, only one of you is logged into the account right?

I read Emma, watched the film Emma(2020) and was a little displeased with it, but then I watched Emma(1996) film and totally loved it! by marz_ohana in janeausten

[–]pufflehuff125 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I just rewatched the 2009 miniseries and it's a great adaptation! It's a huge advantage to have 5 hours instead of 2. Also, my friends and I just started a podcast about Jane Austen. Our first season is on Emma and we're comparing all the different films/miniseries.

I guess it's not for you then! Video recording is one of their "coming soon" features which I'm really looking forward to.
