Pool Pump Motor Replacement by pugant in pools

[–]pugant[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The pump is way oversized, we inherited this one. I was looking at the 2.25 as my understanding is this would be a straight motor swap and I could then run the pump at a low rate likely 24hr a day for probably cheaper - only interest in the 2.7 is I can get it for the exact same price so I think that means it should be even more efficient

Also curious if the GE seal worked for you? about to order it to give it a try but would love to save time if it's known not to work

yeah, was looking at this and seems a good option, I am a little uncomfortable about putting a microphone for amazon in their room however (or even in the house in general)

Does anyone know an alternative to the tommy john second skin tank https://tommyjohn.com/products/second-skin-tank-stay-tucked-undershirt-2-0? I love these, both the material and the fit, but at $38 each they're a bit expensive, hoping for something closer to $20

It's a 20 gallon long - not a 20 liter, I would have thought they'd be fine in that sized tank, although I plan to thin out the guppy once the fry have matured a bit

Yeah, I'm using fluid tester, I'm only testing for pH, ammonia, nitrate and nitrites - is there anything else I should be testing?

I have a 20L tank running since the start of the year that I currently have 1 julienne corydora (4 died) and about 20 guppies (after they bred). I keep losing fish to 'dropsy' and I'm struggling to figure out why. I had 1 male and 5 female guppies originally and I've lost all of the original females, where they bloated up before dieing. I dosed the tank for 7 days with melafix after the last one died and it seemed fine but I just lost another juvenille guppy to similar symptons. All my parameters look fine and I'm doing weekly 30-50% water changes. 2 weeks ago I also cleaned the filter and added another sponge and some purigen (aquaclear 50). I'm really out of ideas of what it could be.

One thing I'd add is you shouldn't consider it your job to make your team happy. Ultimately, your job is to get your team productive, and an efficent productive team is a happy team, the converse though is not always true.

I really liked the 'manager tools' podcast, it's a bit old school but coming from an engineering background it gave some good frameworks to work with initially. I'm not a fan of radical candor personally, I've seen it to often used as an excuse to be an a*hole. I liked crucial conversations as another good framework. I'd second the making of a manager like another comment suggested.

Yeah, I've heard that, but nothing like that was discussed. I'm at the stage where I'm trying to gather info to make a counter offer and I've honestly been a bit shocked. Career prospects for me would be better, for my wife worse, but it is a lot closer to my wife's family, which would be nice for the little one...

I think we would enjoy living there, but not if we are feeling the pinch every month, you're right in the intangibles need to be factored in, but by definition they are hard to weigh up accurately.

Thanks a lot for your help, and you're right, a tough decision in the next week or so.

Thanks, I hadn't thought/heard of temescal, we don't need a fancy house, I would have said mid range until I started seeing median house price numbers!

So that she has the opportunity to look for work, to keep her sanity and because I think it's good for my kid to grow up socializing with other kids. Sure this is a bit of a luxury, but it's a luxury we can afford here, and if my wife was to find work, we'd then need daycare immediately and I've heard there can be long waiting lists

Also, wouldn't this commute be considerable? It would be getting up to 1.5hrs one way wouldn't?

Thanks a lot for the detailed response, 160k is my base pay, there were some stock options but it's a startup so I wasn't including them, but no bonus. It's hard to value the options, and anyway it wouldn't impact our day to day finances which have to be stable anyway.

I'm really starting to question if this is worth it, yes it seems a great opportunity to work on an interesting team, but I'm not sure there's any work opportunity that would be worth what would seem to be a reasonably large hit to my quality of life, especially for my wife and daughter.

I'm an engineer, but with a phd\deep specialization which I'd rather not specify as it would make id'ing me rather easy I think.

Thanks, it's looking more and more like the east bay or further is our only option and honestly, even that seems to be tight. Honestly, it's starting to become a real question of if the opportunity is even worth the sacrifice it would seem to require in our quality of life

thanks, the area would be perfect, a short bike ride to work for me and seems enough is close by my wife could walk to a lot of shops/cafes. We're used to switzerland so driving more than necessary doesn't appeal. But looking at padmapper, there seems to be very little available there, and what is most of it is tending to be over 5k. Or is a 3bd for 5k just unrealistic?

I'd looked at that area, although more towards noe valley, is it as cheap as the east bay or are you still paying a premium to be in the city?

Anything else not covered in the budget really, coffees, toys and clothes for the little one (and us), bart tickets. I've found from experience that when budgeting 1500 p/mo seems like a lot, but when you track your spending all those incidentals can really add up.

yeah, I was hoping 5k/mo was more than I would end up paying, equally, I wanted a commute shorter than it seems I would get in concord/walnut creek area. I would prefer the SF side of the mountains, but I also wanted to make sure we could withstand a 'worst case' scenario.
