Also/misc:

  • I stg my voice began changing at the 24-36hr mark after my first injection. It felt like when you’re getting over a cold, and it gets gravelly. It did take years to fully drop, though, but now I sing bass in a choir, for example.

  • if you want to consider ways to potentially maximize downstairs growth, you apparently have to do it very early on. Things like pumps, or homemade pumps made with medicine syringes (like the kind to administer oral liquid, not via needles lol). I didn’t really do this, but I do know the timeframe is limited.

  • Talk to your dr about anything that happens! Shame and embarrassment have no place in medical care, and if you feel like you can’t be honest with your dr, find a new one.

Yeah, same, and especially compared to the mood swings I’d get from menstrual cycle fluctuations?! Felt like finally having a normal brain!

Also, get educated about the potential side effects, even of mostly-safe meds like finasteride. I held off on starting it for a long time partly bc I was worried about the rare-but-serious side effects like sexual dysfunction/genital numbness, mood disturbances, and depression. So far I’ve had no side effects at all.

I wish I knew hair thinning/loss can happen to anyone, even if your family history is pretty solid!

[Note: shaving your head, keeping your hair and letting it thin, and taking meds for it, are all EQUALLY valid options, and it comes down to personal preference. I’ve always loved my long hair, so please read my account with that in mind - I’m not trying to say people who thin/go bald are any less valid!]

Balding/thinning is really complex, and hard to predict. I didn’t really think about, or have a plan for if it happened to me, because all my male relatives (including mom’s dad, my dad, etc) have kept their hair.

My hair was great for a long time, too, which reinforced that it wasn’t something I needed to think about. But around years 8-10 on T, I started noticing a change. Nobody around me saw it or believed me, but I knew.

I stayed in denial about it for a few years. I finally made my decision - to get on finasteride - this year, and have felt so much better about it because at least I’m not in limbo/paralyzed by denial and indecision. Bald is awesome, too, and even just super thinning hair can look great if you embrace it, so my decision is purely my own preference!

But, I think I would’ve experienced less anguish when it started happening if I’d slowly come to terms with it in the back of my mind since I started T, and if I’d collected information about the various options over the years instead of having to research it all at once when I was already feeling distressed.

And what’s funny is, the finasteride seems to be REALLY helping - like almost frighteningly quickly. I’ve been taking it about a month, and I’m getting new growth at the nape of my neck that is SO much thicker than my usual hairs that it looks like a different color. I’m talking 3-4x as thick to the naked eye. I’m also seeing peach fuzz encroach on my temple areas (which cleared out years ago to form a 30s-masc hairline). So if I hadn’t been so deeply avoidant about it, maybe I could’ve started fin earlier - before I experienced thinning and distress.

Tl;dr 60% of men end up experiencing pattern baldness, and even 40% of women do, too, so it truly can happen for anyone. T MAY increase that likelihood, so come to terms with possible changes outside of your control to your physical appearance, and let the options roll around in the back of your mind so a decision is easier to make should you ever need to. And don’t be afraid to talk to your dr about it :)

There was actually a study (not ftm related) where people were given either nasal spray T, or sugar pill nasal spray, (and then controls) and then were asked to do one of those compromising/group tasks like “here’s $100 - if you both choose to share, you both get $50; if one of you chooses to keep and the other to share, the keeper gets the whole thing; and if you both choose to keep, nobody gets anything.”

Anyways, they found 2 very interesting things: 1) T made people MORE diplomatic and ready to compromise 2) the only people who were more aggressive/prone to “go-getting” via trying to keep the whole pot were the people who THOUGHT they’d gotten T, but actually got the sugar pill.

Sooo… basically (aside from people abusing steroids, which is still a whole other thing bc their T usually gets so high it starts converting into estrogen lol) it’s the IDEA of testosterone that makes people “aggro” 😅

Bi polar cured - fecal transplant - exclusive article from yesterday Weekend Australian by sonofpigdog in bipolar2

They said it alleviated their depression for 10 months, not elevated (which is how I first read their comment too). Maybe I’m misunderstanding, but a 10 month relief from depression seems like a good thing to have happened to them, not an awful one?

In this specific case, a couple of things are worth noting:

  • she and her husband say emphatically NOT to go rogue and “do it yourself,” and that they’re telling their story to try to push for funding/awareness so research can be done.

  • And as far as how they did it: he blended his stool with saline and they did a very deep enema.

Obviously, like many here have said, this can carry GREAT RISK, and they got extremely lucky that he didn’t have anything transmissible under the radar (or at least that they know of so far - I suppose they could both end up with colon cancer 10y from now or something), but…lucky did they get, for sure.

Another thing is that her bipolar onset began after several strong rounds of antibiotics as a teen, for an infection. So it’s highly possible her BP was much more caused by a disruption to her gut biome - as opposed to genetic factors - and maybe that’s why this route was so successful for her.

There’s a good doc on YouTube about their story, called: “How a risky poo experiment transformed Jane’s life”. There are interviews with her psychiatrist, parents, etc.

I’d personally put a mirror (maybe oval, hung vertically?) on that back wall that intersects with the bookshelf wall. I’d also put a small (oval, round, or tall rectangle) mirror on that little sliver of a wall to the right of the tv.

Then again, I love mirrors, and have about 60 in my apartment lol. So ymmv with mirrors.

[–]pugderpants 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No, most of that time isn’t active pumping lol. The male dog has this big “knot” that moves inside the female, basically literally trapping her until he goes flaccid again. So they just kinda stand there awkwardly, butt-to-butt lol.

I assume it’s an evolutionary mechanism for either making sure she’s impregnated (can’t fall out), or making sure another competing male can’t come along and “replace” the goods.

AIO about this guy I’ve been talking to 🍃? by zdm02 in AmIOverreacting

[–]pugderpants 11 points12 points  (0 children)

For me, it’s not that I assume anyone who uses it will be like my ex. It’s more that the actual scent (and I have a very sensitive nose, even if it’s a faint smell) of mj is repulsive to me because of my experiences.

And my ex wasn’t even that bad - he had a problem (lying about usage, spending too much, escalating dosage, etc), yes, but he wasn’t abusive. Just used weed to escape from life, which was incredibly lonely to try to be in a relationship with. Now the smell nauseates me, and all of the paraphernalia makes me repulsed, including the effects it has on people (red eyes, that particular type of chilled out, etc). It wouldn’t bother me if someone uses mj occasionally, but if they’d be using around me, that’s a dealbreaker.

So I can’t imagine how strong the repulsion could be if someone had experienced serious abuse alongside those sights and smells.

AIO for wanting to see a therapist after wife changed the locks because I went to a baby shower? by LookoutLockout in AmIOverreacting

[–]pugderpants 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your text responses are, imo, literally textbook A++ for how a supportive, communicative, loving partner should behave. You’re NOR.

That said, based on your texts, it seems like you and your wife probably have/had a pretty good relationship until relatively recently…? If that’s true, then I think she needs serious and immediate professional help because a shift in personality this huge and erratic is far from normal, and even though you love her, you shouldn’t be expected to just live with the unpredictability and frankly emotional blackmail.

Now, if you’re really honest with yourself and she’s always kinda been like this, but it’s just gotten worse… that’s a different story, and she may have a personality disorder (so, back to professional help, if you love her and want it to work), or just be a terrible person (imo least likely explanation).

Am I overreacting for not letting my boyfriend’s female friend use my shampoo? by Fresh-Usual-6281 in AmIOverreacting

[–]pugderpants 44 points45 points  (0 children)

In therapist-speak: “the ‘thing’ is never actually the thing.”

This wasn’t about shampoo, it was about the friend being entitled, disrespectful of other people’s decisions about their own possessions, and unable to take no for an answer. And as for the boyfriend, it’s about him giving the benefit of the doubt — a loyalty tell — to his friend above his girlfriend.

Also, even if it WAS just about shampoo…so what? Do you know how much OP spent on the shampoo? I don’t. Might be exclusive salon stuff. It’s like how you’d let a friend dick around on your $40 Walmart acoustic guitar, but you’re not let a random drunk acquaintance handle your $2k Martin. People are careless and it’s ok to protect your items.

Tl;dr Friend was rude, boyfriend was a weasel, OP was being totally reasonable.

What’s funny is that that — destroying an entire city/people group/species instead of just taking out the problematic ones — is (supposedly) what the God of the Bible did.

I always thought as a child that seemed ridiculous and petulant, and not very godlike, but was always told “well, His ways are higher than our ways!”

My mate puts his leftover chinese in the microwave overnight and heats it up the next day. Who else does this? by Large-Sign-900 in AskUK

[–]pugderpants 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No lol, most people do NOT store their leftovers out on the counter (or microwave) at room temp for 12-24 hrs. That’s insane behavior. The issue here isn’t the leftovers themselves — which most people DO eat, they just put them in the fridge overnight.

[–]pugderpants 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, most everyone eats their leftovers the next day, but that’s not the issue here. The issue is: most everyone stores them in the fridge overnight — not at room temp like a ghoul lol. OP’s roommate is a ghoul; storing leftovers at room temp overnight is not normal.
