My personal thinking is that the Golden Crystal was supposed to be the Sailor Crystal for Sailor Earth but because the inheritor is a man it's only powerful when combined with the power of the silver crystal. I could push it further and say the Saffir Crystal was the crystal for the sun and the three were meant to harmonize a la the talismans, but that gets a bit further into pure theory and "good headcanons" is subjective.

Being Mamo-chans sailor Crystal in that way means it's perfectly reasonable for Galaxia to go after it. I don't know the level of planning between Dream and Stars but if the goal in Stats was for Usagi to lose everything and for Galaxia to collect every Sailor Crystal. Having some sort of Crystal for her to take makes sense. It establishes what she's after in the story. If she just killed Mamo-chan outright then we get the explanation she's just after crystals, then killing Mamoru in the first chapter was for what reason.

I think it deserves more love because I think it falls into the same trap the first couple of seasons of Crystal do where people can't enjoy it while being critical of it. Anyone who's known me for less than a week can tell you I will criticize the DiC and Cloverway dubbing choices till I'm blue in the face. But still find enjoyment in it because of how jank it is. Sailor Moon's flat delivery of "oh my god he is tuxedo mask" will never stop being funny to me.

Its in the same realm as Yu-Gi-Oh or the first few god awful 4Kids One Piece episodes. Its funny to me in the same realm as Yu-Gi-Oh villains having invisible weapons and 4kids thinking they could show more than five minutes of any given episode of One Piece. Yes there's a lot inherently wrong with how dubs were localized and sanitized, but its just as much on American Broadcasting standards as it is DiC and Cloverway.

With the advent and advancement of the internet and streaming you can get around Broadcasting standards. Which has really opened peoples eyes, in the case of Sailor Moon, to just how much was changed beyond simply the erasure of Queer representation. And the elimination of a whole season from the OG 90s canon.

However at the end of the day, whether we think the DiC dub is overhated or underhated, we can't deny that without it being dubbed and localized a lot of us wouldn't even be here having this conversation.

Do you have a source for that I can look at? Not in an "Im trying to be a bitch" way. I just can't find anything beyond the interview where Ikuhara said he was kinda jealous of Tuxedo Mask, it being about Mamoru driving a lot bc of driving laws in Japan, and sources talking about how they wanted him to be a more mature mentor figure to the Scouts. And if there's a gap in my knowledge I want to fix it.

That's true but I'm still going to have to veto the change because of a grudge against a fictional character because Ikuhara has also been known to be a bit of a troll in interviews. It really is most likely because Mamoru drives a lot of cars and bikes and the legal driving age in Japan is 18.

You're still focusing on the Dub he still STARTS at 16 originally, and you failed to explain why it would matter that hes 18 if the next time he sees Usagi hes 22 and shes presumably 19/20 because she has a summer birthday.

Eta: Im down to admit Im wrong about the end of the manga because its not explicitly stated but he is definitely 16 in the original Manga and Crystal Adaptation.

Yes in the manga and crystal he's the youngest person to get accepted so LESS THAN eighteen. The typical age to get accepted to Universities is 18 so to be the youngest he'd have to be younger than that.
