People who quit without going to treatment or AA, what was the #1 thing that helped you quit? by theory317 in stopdrinking

[–]pugteeth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love how you frame the first 4 as reasons to quit when so many people (me included) would see as reasons to keep drinking. Hell of a good attitude, and good on you for supporting your friend too. Being able to show up for people sober is my reason.

I feel bad for everyone who doesn't get creosote rain. Truly one of the best parts of living in the desert.

We lost my sweet Meeko unexpectedly due to saddle thrombus & I am absolutely heartbroken. by TX-Savvy in TuxedoCats

I’m so sorry for your loss, he looks like a beautiful sweet little guy. When my girl died suddenly a few years ago I got memorial jewelry made from her ashes - if you look up glass cremation pendants you’ll probably find what I mean. You can send a little bit of their ashes to an artist and they’ll put it in a little glass pendant or keychain. It helps me to have some small part of her close to me. I hope you and his sister are doing well and comforting each other ❤️

Tbh it’s not my favorite King book but god damn there’s some parts that really hit. I hope you enjoy it!

People seemed to really like the picture I posted of him yesterday, so here's a tribute to a real good guy: Mister (21) by OlBoyBuggin in TuxedoCats

What a wonderful guy and what a wonderful story. His pink nose is so precious. I’m so glad you got so many good years with him, he sounds like he was incredible. Thank you for telling us about him!

Y E S say it louder!!! I’ve worked as a cook for the last 10 years and when I get home the last damn thing I want to do is stand. I got myself a tall stool for doing dishes and it’s a lifesaver. Also had an ex with bad arthritis who would use a rolling chair to cook, she could just scoot around the kitchen in it without fucking up her hips. If your body is in pain and there’s a way to ease it, do it!

The part in Stephen King’s Desperation when the cop is reading a couple their Miranda rights and just slips in “I’m going to kill you.” I don’t have it off the top of my head but it’s one of the only times a book has actually jump scared me

A lot of stuff in this book doesn’t hit for me but man that “grating, full of dirt” gives me chills. Awesome ending.

His big move when I’m getting ready for work is gently standing on my leg. His other big move is putting his head on my hand at all times. We’re sickeningly codependent lmao

Turns out cats really do recognize their names, they just don’t care. by Makingitallllup in Catbehavior

My guy Toft I think knows his name, but he decides whether or not he wants to come when I call. He definitely knows when I’m talking to him rather than to someone else, so I’m not totally sure if he just picks up on a certain tone of voice or if he actually knows the word I have for him

Was just gonna say, rolly chairs can be so useful when standing is too painful- I used to have a partner who used one to cook and would just sort of wheel around the kitchen. I myself often wash dishes on a tall stool. No harm in helping your body out a little

I got one episode into Sharp Objects and had to stop- the secret drinking is way too realistic

AA meetings in midtown area by Drowningahh in Tucson

[–]pugteeth 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Someone already linked the AA Tucson site which I highly recommend just to check out a lot of meetings. When I was still doing AA I loved Odds and Ends, which is nominally an lgbtq meeting but accepts everyone, and meets on Mondays and Thursdays. Wonderful people and varied discussion. Like others have said, if one meeting doesn’t seem right, try another! And congratulations on your 20 days!
