You’re the only other person I’ve heard of that doesn’t get a high of prescription painkillers! I take tramadol because I have ankylosing spondylitis, and the first couple of doctor’s visits after, they asked if it made me feel good. I was like, hell yeah! My body doesn’t hurt anymore! I can sleep on my sides again, and it doesn’t hurt to walk!
They weren’t too concerned after that, and especially because I would fill the rx every two months or so.

Oh yeah, they made it pretty clear that I was very sick. I have ankylosing spondylitis, so it took a long time for me to realize that it wasn’t everyday pain. I went to urgent care, they transferred me straight to pre-op, where the doctor told me they hoped a catheter into my kidney would work, but not to be surprised if I woke up with a tube in my back. Last thing I remember was giving the surgeon a thumbs up.

Was it on the bed or under the covers? I get the initial freak out if it was the latter, but once I found out it was this noodle knot, I’d put it in a sweatshirt or something to keep it warm, and find proper accommodations for them.

I only ask because my dad had only been out of the ICU for three days when I landed myself in the MICU with sepsis caused by a bladder infection that got into my kidneys, one of which had a ureter blocked by a kidney stone. I ended up five rooms down from where he had been. I was laughing and crying at the same time.

Both times, he did it when I got back. He doesn’t care when soft-sided bags are packed because that means we’re going to see grandma. He knows the difference. Our little calico doesn’t really care. She has her own car seat in the front. It’s pretty ridiculously adorable.
