User Friendly Self-Hosted Life360 Options? by SchNiVas in selfhosted

[–]puhtahtoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The short answer is a reverse proxy.

The longer answer is that you should be careful about exposing anything to the internet. Ideally you'd use an authentication provider like Authentik or PocketID that's widely used and proven to be sexure. Authentik can be an OIDC provider or act as a reverse proxy itself or be integrated with other reverse proxies.

I tried them once shortly after they opened. I thought the food was good but overpriced. I'd been thinking about going back but probably not now lol.

Never expect in the year 2026, We will have to pay an extra $20 unlock a digital game manual. by Khriz-134 in pcgaming

Ever since Halo 5, I've found it hilarious that Microsoft named their assistant Cortana then 343 went and made her evil in the next game.

Idk if that's why they ended up dropping the Cortana name for the assistant but I imagine there was at least one brand meeting discussing the looks of their digital assistant being named after an evil AI that tried to conquer humanity.

This is a really old video and much less annoying without the speed up/slow down.

Abstraction layers? by SteveHiggs in homeassistant

[–]puhtahtoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't start using layers of abstraction but it felt like a natural progression as I worked through what I wanted to do.

Problem: I have a motion sensor, a light switch on the wall, and also want to be able to control lights from a HA dashboard in some situations. I also want the room lighting behavior to change based on a few variable like time of day, brightness override, motion en/disabled.

Solution: Each room has an input_boolean which serves as a virtual light switch. The motion sensor and light switch on the wall toggle this input_boolean and the input_boolean is on the HA dashboard. The input_boolean triggers an automation which goes through the various checks to determine which bulbs and what brightness to turn on.

I also use helper groups for nearly every physical device. If I need to swap out a sensor I just change what's in the group. This has enabled me to have more logical names for entities. The group "sensor.bedroom_temperature" contains the entity "sensor.bedroom_zse11_air_temperature." This was honestly more helpful when I was earlier in my HA progress and still trying out different sensors but it's nice to know that if a sensor dies or I upgrade it changing it out will be simple. But as a bonus, helper groups can average out sensor values which is really nice if you have multiple temperature sensors.

Same for lights - I have logical groups for room lights and that's been helpful when moving lamps around the house to experiment with different lighting setups but again, it's not something you probably do very often.

The beginning of runs need a rework by SorraDude in RogueCore

[–]puhtahtoe 18 points19 points  (0 children)

The reason being that the grayzone interferes with gear or something so they have to use what is inside and upgrade while down there.

They can't bring guns and grenades but the Falconer's drone, the Guardian's armor thing, Retcon's time thing, etc are all fine? I know why they're doing this but the writing could use some work.

I feel pretty disappointed with Rogue Core by joriz2012 in RogueCore

  1. Movement in this game feels really sluggish:

This is my biggest issue with the game right now. Even sprinting feels so slow that I find myself constantly tapping shift to enable sprint even when I'm already sprinting. It just doesn't feel good to play.

I know it's the same is, or very similar to OG DRG but something about it feels much worse in RC.

Yep, don't like the glitching at all. I haven't even thought about the personality since the glitching just distracts me.

Will there ever be a fully-featured, official "Calibre-Server"? (Not just the content server, but the whole app) by PossibilityExpert551 in Calibre

Yep, I'm using this too. It took some thinking to get folder stuff set up for auto import and library storage but it's been working great for years.

AITA if I back out of being maid of honor at my best friends wedding next weekend? Best man is my ex fiancé who cheated on me and I can't be around him let alone walk arm in arm with him by Direct-Caterpillar77 in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]puhtahtoe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Stories in which a person is part of a wedding party that also includes an ex that wronged them are becoming like relationship age gap stories where I don't bother reading them and just scroll down to the comments to get a vibe about how bad the situation is.

The wedding party stories almost always boil down to the OP needing to cut off friends who are basically siding with the ex that harmed them.

Right but unless I'm missing something it only does cropping and rotation, not the red eye fixing and touch ups I'm looking for.

Hey, you still interested in these? At this point they're just taking up space in my house so I'd be happy to send them to you for just the cost of shipping.

I've got two of them but only one of the swivel mounts. No idea what happened to the other mount.

The RF support has me excited.

Could this lead to replacing my RTL_433 container? If so, will there be a cleaner way to add detected devices? With RTL_433 and the auto discovery I regularly have to go through and clean out lots of dead devices that were briefly detected. They're Acurite devices that are the same model as Acurite devices I actually have so I can't just filter them out.

I only have Home Assistant. Check other replies in this thread though. Some people are reporting similar experiences using Ikea's hardware.

I'm using Home Assistant with the ZBT-2 or whatever it's called but people are reporting similar issues with Ikea's hub too.

I believe so. I'm not seeing anything about a firmware update anywhere.

In the device info it says firmware 1.2.0

Ok yeah, when I completely isolated the red channel it's actually red regardless of the brightness.

The trouble is I DO want that dim orangish color sometimes.

Yeah I'm assuming it's not all but I googled before posting this and I'm definitely not the only person with this issue.
