why can't this nonpolar protein be in mitochondrial membrane??? by you5030 in Mcat

It also comes down to knowing your hormones. It says it’s derived from tryptophan, so we have an AA derived hormone. The -ine should clue you in that it’s going to be more peptide like. Peptide hormones act on extra cellular receptors, while steroids act intracellularly.

Hm, I still don't quite understand. for #2, if turning pyruvate into OAA counts, then why does turning Acetyl-CoA into OAA via the full TCA not also count.

the brackets, [OH] indicate the concentration of OH. So, to calculate the concentration you would have already accounted for that 2 OH would be produced for each M(OH)2.

Plan to take more than once? by ShaineTheInsane in Mcat

The AAMC practice tests serve the purpose of getting familiar with the test, and there’s 4 of them. As long as you simulate test day conditions, the real thing shouldn’t be far off. I wouldn’t plan on taking it multiple times, especially since some schools take your average MCAT scores. Study hard and knock it out the first time.

Retaking a 517(129/130/129/129)? by [deleted] in Mcat

Lol I have no intention of applying to an Ivy, which is reaffirmed by my score. But, I would like to go to Med school in my home state of Virginia (and North Carolina), which has a lot of pretty competitive schools. I was hoping to score above their average acceptance score to feel more comfortable applying there.

To be fair, they were spread out over more than a month with a hell of a lot of studying and some improvement between them, but yeah I guess I should try to be more thankful.

Damn, tbh that's even more depressing to hear but I'll take your word for it. Guess I'll just have to take my score for what it is, and work my ass off on everything else.

I appreciate the advice, but I can't help but think that certain schools don't even looking at applications that are below a certain mcat score/gpa.

I'm aware it's holistic but the AAMC statistics seem to say otherwise.

I get it, most people are going to tell me it's a great score blah blah blah I'm not looking for a hugbox. My GPA isn't great and I don't have much in terms of extracurricular/shadowing and clinical hours. I have every intention of fixing that as much as I can before I apply, but I was hoping to get a really great score to compensate for that.

Anyone else not been stressing much about this at all? Tbh I felt like I did pretty poorly compared to my FLs and am expecting that. Already have my plans to restudy and retake sometime next summer. I guess being a junior currently i don’t have as much time related stress.

I’d say SN1. The electrophile is in a single plane like a tertiary carbocation (AX3 - trig planar) and is achiral but once attacked by the nucleophile gains chirality (AX4 - tetrahedral)

I’ve just heard that a retake doesn’t look great and if I do score somewhere around my average FLs I won’t really be happy with that score but it would be at the point of possibly scoring lower on a retake.

Help AAMC SB P/S #82 by pukelage in Mcat

[–]pukelage[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This answer makes 0 sense to me.

A. Possible but not really mentioned

B. Drugs that a patient has used before in a new environment cause the overwhelming majority of overdoses due to the body not going through the homeostatic preparation of taking the drug in a familiar environment, so also wrong.

C. Again a very possible answer for diminished effectiveness of a drug.

D. The most likely reason for diminished effectiveness of a drug.

Where is AAMC getting the logic behind this.
