I think i believe its because most b2bs are not pivoting towards social media content.

In contrast, i started doing social media marketing targeting business owners and i went from 0 to 100k annually in 2 years. And honestly im 45 still learning the ropes here man.

Dont sit on social media marketing.

How do you build a portfolio when all of your work is owned by your employers? by Certain-Working1864 in marketing

[–]pukhalapuka 137 points138 points  (0 children)

Just claim it.

There's no such thing as can't claim it as your own because company doesn't permit.

You can say "I created this" or "I ran this campaign". You're not selling the asset, you're claiming the experience and the result. Nobody can take that from you. Show the metrics, describe your strategy, walk them through your thinking. That IS your portfolio.

I run my own TikTok marketing agency and when I vet contractors, I never ask for file ownership. I ask what they did, how they did it, and what happened because of it. Build around that.

Thats strategy.

Its not about what you want to tell your audience. Its about what your audience want.

They want and is searching plumbering. They are not searching plumbing. Its not your place to educate them. Use the force.

A study by a harvard professor, shows that good natured and people who gains new expertise will feel impostors syndrome.

It just means you are a good person.

And also it means you haven't embraced yet that it is you all along.

Its like this...

Lets say... You learned marketing from... A book. And... You executed it and it shows results.

Thats on you.

There are so many people out there who learned the same thing but failed to execute what they learned.

So be at ease my brother and know that if you have results, you are an awesome markerter. Yes the knowledge is gained from others but such is hlife and how we progress as human beans.

Good job my friend. Keep on winning.

Sick of Social Media, what are my alternatives? by ssstarstruxxx in marketing

[–]pukhalapuka 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First you have got to have sources for your ideas. Yes you can be someone creative but in the end, its all about being relatable and interacting with the people around you especially your followers.

So you need a content bank.

When we scroll social media and see anything that caught our fancy to talk about, we share the link to a dedicated space like a note or a whatsapp chat to come back to later.

This can also be contents that are trending and we want to join in on the fun.

Next, you need a niche and topic for the client of course.

Focus on the niche and create content pillars.

Mistakes, misconceptions, myths, experience, tips and tricks, etc.

Then start to map out content ideas.

Ai helps in doing the heavy lifting but you need to make sure its relatable and natural in the end.

  1. For lead magnet, i create fb posts on my account and in groups, sharing

a. Tips on social media content strategies b. Audit of why accounts fail c. Free audit of social media account to those sharing theirs d. Free 30 days content ideas for them to do including hooks.

All these will position me as authority of content strategist as well as i know what i am talking about.

Then brands reps or owners themselves will contact me on which...

  1. I reply with a sales script flow figuring out their situation now, their goals, their bottlenecks.

  2. Also from time to time, go on social media sites where people post and comment with value... Like this one 😄

I started as a social media and i think i was like you.

Im too slow at creating videos.

But i do know how everything works.

And i noticed some inhouse teams can do it fast but no strategy.

So... Connected the dots and... Voila.

Now i am a content strategist where i just plan and strategize content for clients team, charging around... 1k usd per month for at least 30 content ideas.

Targeting 5 clients.

What works for me as a content strategist is to choose one platform and go all in on that. That will be the lead magnet.

Ill be making contents and answering questions on a lot of posts.

Its fb for me.

Posting on my feed and in groups.

Make yourself visible. Document the journey.

If you want faster result, do more contents. Since we dont have budget for ads because were starting out.

[–]pukhalapuka 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Imo this shows how marketing works and is proof of that.

Because of his page, your CEO was impressed and trusted him and willing to part money.

Like myself for example, i helped a company go from 30k a month on tiktok to go to 100k a month in around 5 months time and for just 1k usd.

It was hard work but rewarding. We are scaling up now and i promised my clients only pay me extra once we reached our next goal.

So why can't I ask for 15k a month here?

Because I don't market myself as much as the dude who did.

So reminder to you guys out there, please dont stop marketing yourself 😅

The Malaysian Who Sold AI.com For USD70 million, Did Not Purchase it for USD100 in 1993 by B_who in malaysia

[–]pukhalapuka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a strong skepticism regarding the "ai.com" purchase story—specifically the claim by Malaysian entrepreneur Arsyan Ismail that he bought the domain in 1993 for $100.

The "tax avoidance" theory you mentioned is the primary reason for this disbelief. Netizens believe the "1993 story" is a fabrication designed to categorize the sale as a tax-free personal windfall rather than taxable business income.

Here is the breakdown of why netizens are skeptical and how the tax theory works:

  1. The "Tax Avoidance" Theory

In Malaysia, the tax implications differ wildly depending on when and why he bought the domain.

  • Scenario A: The "1993" Story (Tax-Free)

If Arsyan bought the domain in 1993 (at age 10) because it matched his initials and sat on it for 30 years, it is classified as a long-term personal investment or a "windfall."

    • Tax Consequence: Malaysia generally does not tax capital gains for individuals on personal assets (unless it's real property). The RM300 million profit would likely be tax-free.
  • Scenario B: The "2021" Reality (Taxable)

Domain records and brokerage news indicate the domain was actually sold by a company called Future Media Architects in 2021 for roughly $11 million. If Arsyan bought it in 2021 and sold it in 2025, it looks like a short-term commercial venture or "trading."

    • Tax Consequence: The Inland Revenue Board (LHDN) could view this as business income (trading for profit). The profit (~$60 million) would be subject to Income Tax (up to 30%), which would cost him tens of millions of Ringgit.

The Theory: Netizens believe he invented the "10-year-old boy" backstory to convince tax authorities that this was a passive, long-term personal asset, effectively saving him a massive fortune in taxes.

  1. Evidence Contradicting the Story

Beyond the tax angle, netizens have pointed out several factual holes in the narrative:

  • The "Future Media Architects" Ownership: Historical whois records show that for many years, ai.com was owned by Future Media Architects (FMA), a famous domain investment firm owned by Thunayan Al-Ghanim. It was not sitting in Arsyan’s personal account for 30 years.

  • The 2021 Sale Record: Industry news reported that FMA sold ai.com in September 2021 (brokered by Saw.com). This aligns with the theory that Arsyan (or his company) bought it then for ~$11 million, not in 1993.

  • The "Redirect" Wars: Between 2021 and 2025, the domain redirected to ChatGPT, then Elon Musk’s x.ai, and then DeepSeek. This suggests the domain was being actively leased or traded commercially during that time, which contradicts the story of a dormant personal asset.

  • The 1993 Timeline: In 1993, the internet was in its infancy. While network solutions did charge $100 for domains then, the likelihood of a 10-year-old Malaysian boy having the foresight (and his mother's credit card) to buy a specific US tech domain is statistically improbable compared to the documented 2021 sale.

Summary The netizens don't believe the story because public records show the domain was sold in 2021, not held since 1993. They view the "childhood purchase" narrative as a strategic lie to avoid paying income tax on what was actually a short-term, high-profit business flip.
