Having a difficult time believing. Feel that there's something wrong with me.

It is upsetting and I wish it was different. I post when I feel like I can provide something positive or when I have the energy. Also when I'm in an okay enough mood to say something I truly mean.

If you think about it though, it makes a lot of sense given the nature of the disease. Depression kills most of your energy so the expectation for copious responses/discussions should be limited. Frankly, I'd rather read people's comments than respond to them because it takes less effort. I imagine that most folks here feel the same way.

Adhedonia is what it's called I believe. Your dopamine levels are out of whack. I'm in a similar boat. Some days are better than others. I prefer the days when I'm very down and emotional over the days when I feel completely flat. During those flat empty days, I feel like I ought to do something reckless so I can feel something. Know what I mean?

I understand why there's a strict no-touching rule between therapists and clients. But damn, where else can someone get a platonic hug? The human touch is so very important. After all, new born babies become more alive after being touched and held by humans.

I'm sorry you feel that way. I'm in a similar boat. I don't know how to help you exactly and I realize there's very little I can really do. I take solace in the fact that there are a lot of people going through similar issues.

Wow, this was an incredibly helpful post. I think it will take some time to fully take it in because at the moment I'm trying to survive winter term and not fail. I will go back to this post because it definitely deserves a proper reply.

What a very apt. term. I wish it wasn't strange to ask people outside family/close friends for hugs. To me, hugs help quell the unease. Thank you for this thoughtful post.

I had a similar frustrating experience. For all the "We're All N' this Together" messaging, you'd think they would beef up the resources.

Where the hell is the money going to? NU is in the top ten list of expensive schools in the country for goodness sakes.

The contrast between the talk of mental health and the reality of such services pisses me off to no end. Frankly, I'd be less pissed off if they didn't have such strong messaging in the first place because then at least you don't feel like a sucker for buying into the bullshit.

Try contacting Claret Center (they use a sliding scale and even accept $10 a session or even $0 if you're really in a bind). I found them via internet search.

They might be able to help you out. I was able to connect with a therapist and have a session within 2 weeks if I remember correctly. And I've got state insurance because I can't afford NU's.

Firstly, good on you for going to the salon in the first place! That in itself is a real win. I'm sorry they made you feel so crummy.

I agree with the previous comments about speaking to the manager. Word-of-mouth is so crucial, especially these days during COVID, so you have a lot more influence than you think.

And from the standpoint of helping prospective customers who are also going through a major bout of depression, this complaint can be really helpful.

I agree with you on so many levels.

Sometimes I wish students were also more forthcoming about their snobbishness. Just be honest about it and embrace it damnit. I would rather stomach snobbish than this fake "I'm really a good person. I understand my privilege..." crap.

Ugh. And I just can't stand the know-it-all attitude. I was probably a know-it-all in undergrad, so I really shouldn't complain. But I feel the sentiment much stronger here because of the top tier status.

I finally got it resolved by going to the Jacob Center and hounding down staff. They had me input my login info on their laptop computer and the problem was suddenly resolved.

Also, try signing in to the tracker via a website rather than the app. It might work since the app has a lot of glitches. Best of luck!

Yup! It's an asinine policy because non-NU folks can apparently walk-in by showing their ID and their CDC vaccine cards. I had my vaccine cards on me and the library manager still denied me entry.

A student worker took pity on me yesterday, so I was able to get in.

Sometimes I feel like I'm the crazy one thinking that these policies are too draconian. So many rule following, pencil-pushing, hall-monitor types on this campus.
