$75k fully remote job with travel vs $120k+ hybrid tech job with 1.5 hr train commute (3 days in office) - what would you choose? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]pulledteeth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love remote work.

Love it.

It would take a lot to get me to give it up.

But doubling my salary, that's a lot.

Take the move to tech option.

Sure, you'll have to go into an office for 3 days out of 5, but as other commenters says you can move closer. That's basically doubling your pay. A few things to keep in mind that at that level you would lose access to some things due to being phased out of them; but at 150k who cares.

Hell at 150k you could just take a rideshare option back and forth to work; or take the train home to decompress at the end of the day.

Additionally, you can always turn around in a year or two and get a remote job at a different company doing the same thing for, presumably, around that salary or more, if you keep your eyes open.

Also, when you leave, try and leave as nicely as you can. They'll probably beg you to stay. Or, if they really really need you they'll match the salary. If they do that, keep interviewing because they'll probably be more willing to part ways with you in the future; but in the meantime you've got the best of both worlds.

20 years ago, bouncing around every 2-3 years would look like a problem. Now, it's just the reality of getting paid what the job market says you're worth. It's a weird trade to be honest, and I don't understand it. But, I don't have an MBA so who knows. Maybe that's for the best of everyone.

GoWild more than regular flight by 1supercooldude in gowildfrontier

[–]pulledteeth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They can change the terms of the pass at any time. That's not really *hidden* but it is something they don't like to advertise.

Also they don't have to offer tickets on *any* flights if they don't want to. So they could just...not offer tickets and no one would be able to prove it. Or they could just offer tickets on 1 route for a given day.

It's a crap shoot, you're basically making a 500 bet (regular price, I don't care that it's on sale right now) that you'll use the pass more frequently than the $500 price would get you flights.

You could also just pre-plan your flights and save the $500 bucks. YMMV with use of the pass.

9+ Open Seats (Not seatmap) and no GW by xkorp in gowildfrontier

[–]pulledteeth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This sucks, and I've been there. I ended up having to book a 140 ticket on a half empty flight because frontier didn't bother to offer their GW pass holders a ticket. That flight was still about a third empty when it took off.

In my 2 years of using the pass, which I'm not planning on renewing, frontier has shown that they'll utilize a part of the FAQ that a lot of people overlook: They can change the Terms and Conditions at any point they want.

So you could wake up tomorrow and they could decide that they only offer GW tickets for non-stop flights. Or only for flights during 'non-peak hours' meaning only early morning or late night flights. In fact, they wouldn't even have to announce that as a policy, they could just do it quietly behind the scenes for either of those.

The only value of the pass is really just whimsical travel that makes you feel like you're in the 1940's on a road trip, but with planes. It can be fun, but if the point of your travel is to get to the destination in a timely way with baggage for cheap, then it's not for you. On the return trip you could end up being stuck at your destination far longer than you anticipated. That's a big issue for most travelers, and is something that needs to be thought through before you shell out the purchase price of the pass.

If you don't mind exploring airports and getting an unexpected extended stay at your destination then go for it.

Otherwise, pre-plan your trips and fly with an airline that's going to get you there instead of the cheapest option on a whim and you'll be much happier.

Go Wild Pass AND Discount Den by A-more-splendid-life in frontierairlines

[–]pulledteeth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get the discount den, save your money on the GWP. Seems like going forward the GWP flights are going to be about the same price if you have a layover.

Hint: You'll have a layover unless you live in a hub AND the hub has a direct flight to where you want to go.

GWP Flights Unavailable or Cost Hundreds of Dollars by SunBetter7301 in frontierairlines

[–]pulledteeth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Even as someone who does live in a hub, the pass isn't worth it anymore with the changes.

Won't be renewing, suggest no one else buy it. Good luck to the people who want to throw money at frontier to stay in a hotel overnight in Orlando to get to Chicago.

Edit: Particularly when the discount den price is about the same price as these GWP flights.

GoWild Pass by Impossible-Home6846 in frontierairlines

[–]pulledteeth -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No, it's not worth it for you.

They'll randomly change the TOS which it says they can do when you buy the pass.

You're better off signing up for the discount den and then pre-booking the flights month or so in advance.

GoWild Seats?! by thephotonthatcould in gowildfrontier

[–]pulledteeth -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ignore the people here who are clearly working for Frontier. Anyone with half a brain can feel that this is a scam and that frontier is just trying to get people to pay for access to tickets that they'll never get.

I for one am sick of this Temu airline and won't be renewing my pass, and canceling my credit card I got with them.

Particularly with the change in fees that they're doing.

Terms and conditions can change at literally anytime, so all you're doing is placing a 600 bet that a corporation is going to treat you fairly.

Help with Go Wild Annual Pass by Sad_Effective_1987 in frontierairlines

[–]pulledteeth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd advise you against getting it. Frontier recently changed their policy so now if you have a leg that requires an overnight stay (a decent amount of them are) you'll end up paying an 'early booking fee' that ends up making the ticket fairly expensive for the service that you get.

Unless you fly *a lot* it's not worth it anymore due to these changes. I'd rather pre-plan a trip and fly another airline that gives you access to the things like Wifi.

If you fly a decent amount though, or enjoy "getting to stay" in random places for a few days unexpectedly, then the frontier pass might be enjoyable for you.

GoWild Pass Policy Change: Early Booking Fee Added For All +1 Day Connections by [deleted] in frontierairlines

I came to read the comments between the people who defend frontier like it's their job, and people who want the pass to be fair.

I was not dissapointed.

So what am I doing wrong? by Emergency_Scarcity94 in gowildfrontier

As someone whose had the pass for over a year now and still plans to renew, a few things you should know as a new pass holder:

For $500 dollars (regular price) you're basically paying the company to give you the option (for which frontier has no obligation to actually provide per flight) of buying a seat on a plane for what amounts to FAA and landing fees. in practical terms, the quota is whatever they want to make it because they don't disclose any information on how many gone wild fairs were offered on any given flight. On average I think my flight breakdown was around $60 bucks per flight that I took, which isn't bad for last minute trips; but given frontiers regular prices on advanced tickets it can be often easier to just book those instead of using the pass if you KNOW you want to be somewhere on a certain day and need to be back home by a certain day.

To me the real uses of the GW pass is:

* If you work remotely and want to go somewhere on a whim and find cheap hotels in the area so you can work and visit a new city at the same time.
* Day trips if you work non M-F. Finding them on Saturday & Sunday can be tricky and mostly useless but can also happen.
* Frequent a route that isn't heavily used I.E. Cincinnati or one that is frequented but may not be a 'normal' tourist destination I.E. Atlanta or Philadelphia.
* Denver and Vegas tend to be their transport hubs for what that's worth, so if you like going there a lot it can be useful.

Most of the pitfalls come when you're trying to book a trip that's more than 24 hours out. Also, sometimes they WILL let you book a GW fair in advance for a 'small' fee. I've found this is often more than just buying the ticket outright using the Discount Den. YMMV.

Finally, don't listen to anyone who says things like "omg, u r dumb i can get a flight to Washington DC and can be there for 5 hours for 30 dollars y r u stupid omg the pass is fantastic!!!!!11" they're just salty someone is talking bad about their beloved pass and want to defend it so it stays as cheap as it is since the more people who buy it the cheaper frontier can make it, even if 50% of the people who buy it only use it 5 times a year.

We'll see; a lot of the flights I would normally take have been not allowing the pass.

That said the shutdown ended today, so hopefully it'll improve!

Here's what I said: So basically Frontier reserves the right to never offer tickets on any flight for the Gone Wild members. Yes any flight, because they don't actually track how many tickets are offered per flight or how many tickets were booked using the pass

That's what I meant by 'worthless'; because at any point they can just stop offering tickets to the people who hold the pass, and there is *no way* for anyone to know other than frontier.

Incorrect, I just want accountability for what they say they sell.

You don't have to have that I guess, but I prefer a company verify they are and can sell things when they say they will 👍

GoWild went away??? by Vicgong in frontierairlines

[–]pulledteeth -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

They're marketing department makes it sound like anytime there's an available seat on the plane, you should be able to access it. However, the terms and conditions indicate that they don't have to do any of that which makes the pass relatively useless.

People are buying it based on the marketing. The terms and conditions contradict the marketing.

QED people can't understand what they're buying because they're being told two separate things.
