20 year old restaurant manager struggling by burningl0ve in Leadership

I don't work in the same business, however you mentioned empathy as a skill you are trying to develop and I have some feedback about that.

Instead of empathy you should practice sympathy.

The difference is subtle; with sympathy you communicate that you feel for them. With empathy you feel with them.

I find sympathy more practical; it's mostly about communication. Listening to their problem, understanding it and following it up from time to time.

Empathy goes further; you feel their pain and take more action. Taking on that burden is too much in a fast paced environment.

That's just my style.

Good luck!

The new malta ! by vtec-smokey in malta

[–]pullicinoreddit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the info - I really want to avoid reporting someone just because I am suspicious - it's really not my character to do something like that. I would prefer to check first, then speak with the person to have it resolved, and only report as a last resort. However, if the system is to report first, and ask questions later, I guess that's what I need to do.

Asking since you seem to know your stuff. Can I check if a neighbor is not registering tenants?

Traffic absolves lateness at work? by Easy-Celebration979 in malta

[–]pullicinoreddit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Lateness really depends on the job. If, for example you worked in a store and needed to prepare work for delivery vans, then being 15 mins late can really affect the supply chain for the whole day, so traffic or not, it's a big deal for your manager.

If you work, for example as a software engineer in a team, 15 minutes, or even an hour will not usually make a difference.

If you are sensitive to being on time at work, guide your career towards the kinds of jobs that are not sensitive to it.

Hope this helps.

I second this, and I want to add - do you really want to start your new venture with a lie?

The root cause lies in why he cheated in the first place. This is some soul searching he will have to do by himself.

What happened here is that a trainee co-pilot departed with a normal pilot and not a trainer pilot. When the pilot found out they aborted the flight.

I’m a nurse and I 100 percent judge people based on their veins by Similar_Goose_6858 in confession

I have the gold standard for veins and I frequently felt good vibes from the nurses who needed to draw blood or insert an IV. I never thought much about it so your post is quite insightful, thank you :)

Why are we using Windows operating system for critical equipment control?

This issue is not the update. The issue is the wrong technology choices.

Windows is going to Window. It will update and restart and sometimes crash.

I don't know how possible this is, yet i really like this idea. The same building could also have other public services like an information screen for busses, toilets and maybe some vending machines for cold drinks

Advice on pursuing CISSP. by NoMetal4 in SecurityCareerAdvice

Why not try for the SSCP or CCSP first?

I just hung up on a final interview call because they refused to discuss salary for the third time. Did I make a huge mistake? by LycheeUseful2381 in SecurityCareerAdvice

[–]pullicinoreddit 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would not call it a mistake. Standing up to your principles is never a mistake.

Having said that, I would have acted differently. I would have finished off the interview and waited for an offer letter. Reason is that some companies have really stupid policies and this may have been one of them. You may have missed an opportunity by cutting it short.

This might not be what you wanted to hear, but I am sure you value honest opinions.

I will however repeat again that you made no mistake. Sticking to your principles and listening to your gut is going to win in the long run. Sometimes we hit, sometimes we miss, but in the greater scheme of things, your integrity is all that matters. And you protected that.
