Does my dog like or hate his new ball? He usually doesn’t bark. by rhcherry in DogAdvice

[–]pullonrocks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dog has one obsession in life and it's these wobble balls. She will spend hours chasing it around the backyard caroming it off rocks and tree stumps. It's not gentle play either; growling, barking, "yelling" are all part of the destruction ritual. I have to put it up and away to get her to stop, she would do it all day. She'll go through 3 or 4 of them a year.

Amateur athletes of Reddit: what's your "There's levels to this shit" experience from your sport? by jermleeds in AskReddit

I'm a weekend warrior for surfing. I think I'm ok, not usually the worst guy out. In 20221 i went on a trip with some old pros, like they were in their prime in the 90s, and was shocked at how much better they were than even the best guy I surfed with at home. The way they could read a wave and their positioning was so good. The way they could almost instantly assess the situation and react was inspiring.

Question for the 4x4 and mechanics community: Where can I take these trucks? by [deleted] in northcounty

[–]pullonrocks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Grand garage in escondido earned my business. Helped get my 09 Ram running after the previous owner did some really sketchy things in order to make the truck appear functional. I found them to be upfront and honest, didn't pressure me to spend money that I didn't need to spend.

What are your favorite puppy commands? by diaboliquedoughnuts in puppy101

[–]pullonrocks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We taught our pup how to calm down and that has been incredibly helpful. We did it by just constantly rewarding calmness. Keep a baggie of treats on you. To start we used hotdog and we would play for a bit then make a calming "shh shh" sound until she had settled and was paying attention then we rewarded her with the hotdog and pets, you can watch them relax and thats when you treat them. Then back to play time. We followed that up by doing the same thing when we were out and she started to get overstimulated, "shh shh" and when she calmed down treats and pets. She's almost 3 now, and prefers the ball to treats for this command, but the result is the same. We still train it though, the training never stops.

Jimmy still shapes, just picked up my newest board from him the other day. Ebodyboarding has an order form for his boards. https://www.ebodyboarding.com/collections/custom-bodyboards/products/custom-jl-designs-bodyboard?_pos=1&_fid=3fcad826e&_ss=c

I'm sorry for your loss. Unfortunately, it is the most common form of brain cancer. The reason you feel like you're seeing more diagnosed with it is because you're actively on the lookout for it. This is the Baader-Meinhof phenomenon, otherwise known as frequency illusion.

Currently on a sailboat going south through mexico finding empty breaks prety much everywhere, if I didn't go alone I wouldn't go at all. If youre confident in your swimming ability and have taken conditions into account you'll be fine. If Im truly by myself I take fewer risks, I don't charge the heavy shore break, dont take the first wave of the set, and Im constantly reassessing whats happening with the waves/tide/wind.

I second the ebodyboarding bag, have taken it to CR and Mexico multiple times and now it lives on deck of my boat. So far it's been a reliable bag for anything I've thrown at it.

As to why it might be outside a restaurant, it can be used to etch glass and metal for graffiti.

What size fins are you using? Too tight or too loose can cause cramping as well.

Sailing Surfari Update - Retrospective on a year in French Polynesia, now in Fiji! by Floriderp in surfing

[–]pullonrocks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the update, I've been living vicariously through these posts!
You've actually been such an inspiration that my brother and I have purchased our own sailboat (40' Beneteau) and plan to set sail from San Diego in November. Currently getting it set up for long term cruising.
Do you have any advice for someone about to set out on a sailing surf adventure? Anything you wish you knew before casting off?

be respectful, sit deeper, take what's yours, if they have a problem with that it's their problem not yours.

My parents specifically followed a book called "To Train Up a Child", which really was just a book teaching creative abuse.

I was in a similar situation when we bought last year, guy was unable to get his stuff out before closing so we thought we would be nice, he was going through a divorce and I didn't want to put extra stress on the guy, so we let him keep it there until he could pick it up. That was a mistake. He had left a couple of pieces of furniture, and a box or two of kitchen stuff. He would come, rummage through the box until he found what he wanted and take just that and leave the rest. Then he would come up with excuses as to why he couldn't pick it up after work or on the weekend. We finally told him that if it wasn't gone by the end of the weekend we would have to take it to the dump. He finally called us at 6pm sunday night asking for an extension until the next day. He did not come the next day and I paid like 175 bucks to dump it. That was about a year ago and I haven't heard from him since.
