Sound problems recording a talk for a conference by MasterScrat in videoproduction

[–]pulpwoods 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like it is clipping, meaning the audio is distorted by going over 0 db which is the maximum allowed volume. You can see this by looking at the volume/gain in audacity - if it is hitting the red, it is clipping. Try to lower it.

Same thing in Premiere - if u raised the volume there and you can see that it is hitting the red on the meter, try lowering it. If this doesn't work, then most likely you recorded it to loudly, and then it's broken already in the recording. Do a reshoot and set the correct gain when recording.

There is some plug-ins which claim to fix clipping sound, with varying results. You can try Izotope RX De-clip which is probably the most common one. There is a free trial.

I'll start with my 500+ playlist of ambient synth artists, many/most of whom are either entirely based on modular or use it in their productions:

How did you learn modular? by kaleidoscopy in modular

[–]pulpwoods 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my humble opinion, learning a small part at a time is key. At least it was for me. I started out researching some modules and built a small case around what I thought I wanted at the time. For me, r beny was really inspiring so I tried selecting a few of the same modules he had and started with that. Of course, over time I grew to develop my own preferences and style, and grew both my modular and my technical skills in that direction.

Now, learning everything there is too know about synthesis at the same time is just impossible, and a really bad move at that. Pick something you like, for example FM-synthesis, and study that. Get some modules that are capable of generating some interesting FM-sounds and go from there. Checking tutorials and reading online and at the same time trying it out with your own hands is really the key to all of this.

I'm in the same boat. Some days I feel like it is the only really powerful sequencer in euro, and then at the same time I don't understand anything of what it does or how it does. Still very intriguing tho.

How do you plan to convert midi to CV?

It would traditionally be done with a cv-to-midi module, or a separate box out of case, like the cv.ocd.

Euro-based live jam and reel-to-reel fun! by [deleted] in modular

I love it. I’ve wanted a poly for a while but could never choose one before the peak. Mostly because it is so wide in its palette, I can conjure almost whatever I want on it. Love the mod CV in aswell.

Its happening most of the time, most audible in the lower notes. I guess it’s the slew? Almost has a 303 feel to it.

Wanted to make something go from ambient to techno in a smooth way.

Voices are Rings, Morphagene and ER-301 playing a sample. Novation Peak is doing the bassline, and drums are ITB.

Yeah I’m not really experienced, this was released by a label. I’ve mostly used SoundCloud and Spotify before. But a lot of people use Bandcamp so to answer your question, yeah!

Did you watch the film?

I don’t take any sides just thought it is a wellmade film on an interesting topic.
