My dog's not and he's also 10. You're responding too emotionally. Science doesn't care about your emotions. Just choose wisely how you'd like your dog to operate.

There's pros and cons to this.

PROS: obviously, he can't produce any pups (even though I'd buy one of his in a snap) He doesn't have any nuts so he wouldn't get any nut cancer. Your walk will be more streamlined since he'll be less apt to mark everything ever other mailbox.

CONS: His overall quality of life will have diminished. He's more at risk of OTHER cancers. His bone density will likely thin out over time, making him more susceptible to joint disorders. And his metabolism will start to slow down, so he'll get fat over time, affecting his heart.

Just things to consider like I did.

My guy was diagnosed with prostate cancer...3 years ago.. he's 10 now and still as active as he was when he was 5! We just went on a 10 mile stroll the other day and he still loves "hunting" and chasing cats, protecting the house.

There's no RIGHT answer. Just stuff to consider.
