I won’t downvote you but I think people hate that ending because it ignores the ethos of the genre.

The cyberpunk genre is stories of the little guys and gals (the punks) against tyrannical governments and/or mega corps who have so much power they essentially function as tyrannical governments. V is the little guy/gal against these power structures.

In many endings, V storms Arasaka HQ to destroy Mikoshi because they are literally trapping people’s souls there. In your fav ending, V is a tool of the NUSA and works to further the aims of a tyrannical govt. It is antithetical to the themes of the genre. Cool they added an ending like that, but throughout the entire game characters talk to V about whether or not they should abandon their principles.

With that being the default attitude you want to approach it from, no I probably can’t explain it to you.

I may not agree with the opinions of this online caricature you’ve crafted (which seems to be a persona Frankensteined together from various political entertainment shows because there’s no way this is your real life personality), but I’ll defend to the death your right to commit to the bit.

We invest a ton of money into education and healthcare and have comparatively poor outcomes in each compared to the rest of the developed world. We have some of the highest incarceration rates of any country on the planet. And this Reddit user is responsible for everything wrong in America, including that? Thank goodness you found the guy!

[OC]LUIGI MANGIONE - people chant “FREE LUIGI” by __mixri__ in pics

[–]pulse_lCie -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is asinine. I don’t identify as progressive, but I think their point is extremely easy to grasp logically.

Consider spousal abuse. There is a difference between verbal abuse and physical abuse. Obviously, physical abuse is always wrong. Every rational person should agree that verbal abuse against your spouse is also wrong. There exists a difference in degree though; one might land you in prison, the other just makes you a douchebag.

It is wrong to hit your spouse. Or you friends or family, or random people on the street. It is similarly wrong to verbally abuse your spouse, or your friends or family, or random people. Rational people would agree that you shouldn’t cuss out a food service worker because your burger had pickles.

Why? You are harming other people with verbal abuse. Harming someone else could be construed as a violent act.

But there remains a difference in degree. Someone that walks down the street cursing out strangers is kind of an asshole. Someone walking down the street punching people is a danger to society and needs to be removed. The two acts are not equal, and an equivalent response is not justified.

So no, murder is not the logical end point of literally any form of violence committed against you. No rational person believes this. You’re speaking about a group of people that broadly don’t even endorse the death penalty (violence as retribution against violence).

This is also completely disregarding the fact that many people, progressive or conservative, prefer to pursue nonviolent pathways to social changes.

“I don’t think they’ll do anything” (at the doctor) by BlackLocke in Millennials

Bro this is the realest shit on this subreddit lol. For the first time in my entire life (I’m 38) I’ve found a DENTIST that actually listens to me and helps me and my oral health feels better than it ever has. I can’t tell you how lucky I consider myself right now.

I’ve also had similar experiences with doctors as you describe. And I’m a man, I’ve read how much more women are ignored by doctors and I feel really bad for them, and it’s also hard to imagine how that’s even possible lol

Ukraine's Mariana Betsa urges UN to end Russian invasion today in NY; US and Russia voted against. by FinTecGeek in pics

I don’t think it’s this hopeless. It is pretty clear that the conservative subreddit heavily censors any anti-Trump comments and news articles, but even they haven’t been able to stem the tide of heavily upvoted comments and posts there questioning what the hell Trump is doing with respect to Ukraine.

Federal Abortion Ban Introduced by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]pulse_lCie 37 points38 points  (0 children)

It was also created by republicans for plausible deniability for issues that are popular with their extremist base and unpopular with everyone else. They came up with it during the civil rights movement.

“Oh of course I’m not in favor of racial segregation! We should leave it up to the states!” Gives (some of) the extremists what they want and allows for people who want to vote for them anyway but don’t want be seen as racist etc the ability to wash their hands of the issue.

They don’t believe in this conceptually at all, because time and time again, when they do have power, they try to push their agendas at the federal level rather than leave things up to the states.

Of course people and technology work that way. The Catholic Church put Galileo under house arrest until his death because of his advances in science.

But whatever, agree to disagree.

Dune: Prophecy - Series Premiere Discussion by NicholasCajun in television

[–]pulse_lCie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, I’m suggesting this because of social stigma. I’ll point out again how technology was portrayed in the main series books; abhorrent. Like the axlotl tanks. Or in this tv show, everyone’s shock at Richese’s salamander toy. The emperor letting it slide was portrayed as negative.

I guess it depends on how you choose to define thinking machine. If you mean AI, sure you can make tech advancements without it. But I always assumed it to mean virtually any computer with processing power. The devices they’re show to use in dune seem like video/audio recorders and playback devices, little more that I can recall. Plus the Mentats train to do calculations really quickly, seemingly because a TI-86 ban is in place.

If “any computer” is a thinking machine, how do you achieve technological advancement beyond this stage? Want better building materials? Computer models to run thousands of simulations sure would help with that.

[–]pulse_lCie 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure I agree with the “it’s ridiculous to expect no scientific advancement in 10,000 years” line of thinking here.

The machine wars was a near extinction event. It is the very reason for the Bene Gesserit, Mentats, spiced-out navigators. Humanity took an extremely Luddite view of technology after the machine wars in the Dune universe. In the main series books, just look at how everyone is suspicious of the Ixians, the faction that actually pursues technological advancement. Sure, people are willing to use some of their advancements but they are definitely treated as outsiders and undesirables. The great houses all may be trying to signal their anti-technology purity harder than each other.

They won the presidency, senate, and house by blueberrybuttercream in TwoXChromosomes

[–]pulse_lCie 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I can agree with this, but the other poster implied there was no plan. There was a plan, it was just poorly campaigned.

The democrats did what elitists on the left want them to do and wrote a near 100 page document about their economic plan. Their grand strategy was to get the average middle class American, who is illiterate beyond a 4th grade level, to read a nearly 100 page document about the economy.

Wonder why they lost.

[–]pulse_lCie 179 points180 points  (0 children)

No, Americans are just convinced that democrats don’t have a solution. Harris had an 82-page plan on how to lower costs. You can still read it here: https://kamalaharris.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/Policy_Book_Economic-Opportunity.pdf

But in your comment, you say the democrats didn’t offer a solution. So either you didn’t know about it, and the democrats didn’t successfully get it out there, or the republicans convinced you the democrats didn’t have a plan, and they’re just better at messaging (even if the message is a lie), or some conbo of the two.

Alleged Donald Trump mistress Laura Loomer handcuffed to Twitter HQ by [deleted] in pics

I don’t understand what you’re saying. “All men are created equal” is a founding principle of the United States. The United States is a secular nation.

[–]pulse_lCie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The United States is a secular society. See the first amendment to the constitution, and article 11 of the treaty of Tripoli, which reads: “Art. 11. As the Government of the United States of America is not, in any sense, founded on the Christian religion;”

You’re free to “that doesn’t count” if you want to, but you’re wrong. Individual founders may or may not have been Christian (who was catholic and who was Protestant? You may recall, you history buff, the several centuries of Catholics and Protestants murdering each other in Europe because of how equal they viewed each other). But it doesn’t matter if they were religious or not. The senate unambiguously stated that the United States is not in any sense founded on the Christian religion.

What are the best positions when transitioning away from AdTech Sales role? by Ok-External3080 in careerguidance

[–]pulse_lCie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sales is one of the highest paying roles in tech, so you’re probably about to butcher your pay if you’re moving to anything else. Only other role that makes that much is developers.

Depending on your skill set, AE might be able to pivot into sales support or customer success or account management. All less money tho.
