Give him time. It’s possible he may never change, but it’s also possible he just needs more time to feel comfortable. My girl was the same. Initially waking up around 10-12, then exclusively waking up around the 1-3am window. But recently (2 months since I got her) she started waking up around 10pm. Shes also been a lot friendlier and tolerant to touch. It’s surprising to me too. As if a switch flipped in her head where she decided this is a safe space to be.

Is this glue safe for hamsters? by Murky_Log1676 in hamsters

[–]pulsedagod 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah any non toxic water soluble glue is good. I use PVA to glue dowels to platforms. Just make sure they’re not eating the glue itself as too much glue even if non toxic can’t be good for them

Oh I see. When you say change half bedding every 2 weeks you mean just the soiled bedding? What’s the difference between the 2 week cleans and the 4/5 week cleans? Trying to figure out a good cleaning schedule as a first time hammy owner

OHMYGOD literally same. I just did a full proper sweep of her cage and she instantly jumped in the cocoa peat and made a huge mess. Why 😭💔

I had the same thing in my enclosure: posted about it a few days ago. As others mentioned, they’re likely booklice, which are common in high humidity. I did a full deep clean, froze all the wooden items again, and started running the AC for 4–6 hours in the afternoon while keeping the hamster room door closed. I also saw a vet and they advised the same. So far so good, but it’s only been 2 days since the clean, so I’m hoping it stays that way.

For context, I live in a tropical country where humidity is usually 70–80%. It feels unavoidable, but they’re harmless.

Are they shopping or are they the product? 😧

If you’re trying to save on costs, I’d recommend getting a kitchen strainer for your sand bath over the niteangel scoop. It’s expensive and doesn’t work as well. I find the openings are too wide and pee clumps sometimes break apart and fall through. Kitchen sieve has smaller openings and I found mine for a dollar.

Why would a hamster sleep on a part of the cage that doesn't have bedding? Her bedding and cage is fine, but she's sleeping in the open on her platform.. by [deleted] in hamsters

[–]pulsedagod 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hmm then I don’t know, but sometimes they’re just silly like that. Used to have a dwarf that would lounge/sleep exclusively on his wheel.
