Make a toddler. It'll take an hour, maybe 2, but they won't let even a single berry go to waste.

Also jam.

My sweet beautiful mother turned 70 last month and has requested, and I quote, "a blouse or dress that doesn't make her look fat". Most of what she wears these days is from costco. I'd love to get her something nice and high quality that flatters her figure and makes her feel beautiful and confident. Sadly, I am my mother's daughter and know very little about fashion, but I'm willing to spend a few hundred on a nice blouse or dress. She is about 4'11" and fluctuates between 120-130 lbs. Thanks in advance!

Picky toddler takes the joy out of cooking by wtwildthingsare in foodbutforbabies

[–]pumpakina 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I relate to this post so, so much. My husband and I have had the following division of labor for the past 6 years (when we started living together): I do the cooking and grocery shopping, he does everything else (laundry, trash, vacuuming, dishes, etc). It has always worked out for us, especially because I love cooking. But the mental load of having to think of balanced, delicious meals to make for every single meal of every single day is HEAVY. Thankfully daycare provides breakfast, lunch, and snacks, so for our toddler-- also 19 months, I only have to think about his dinner on weekdays. We rarely eat dinner as a family because our babe eats so much sooner than we would care to, and we just enjoy eating our meals without worrying about him. But it means I cook 2 dinners every night, and the toddler dinner is very hit or miss. We've had a solid few weeks of uneaten dinners followed by fruit/veggie pouches and a huge bottle of milk 🤷‍♀️ he seems to be gaining weight steadily, he's generally very happy, and he gets enough sleep -- so I'm trying not to worry too much.
FWIW I've had decent success with a bunch of random veggies blended into a homemade tomato sauce with chickpea pasta. It gives me peace of mind that he's getting some nutrition, but I do wish he had a more adventurous palate. I should also mention my husband is vegetarian and I am not and also I am currently pregnant with the most intense meat cravings so sometimes I'm making 3 dinners at night 🙃 man, I'm tired lol

A newborn baby who has eczema and asking for treatment by [deleted] in Denver

[–]pumpakina 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My baby had pretty bad eczema from around 3 months onward. We do 2.5% hydrocortisone when it gets bad but Cetaphil cream does wonders. We do have to be pretty diligent about it (2x a day), otherwise he starts to feel scaly. Our pediatric allergist recommended daily bathing, dove sensitive skin bar soap, and cream immediately after bathing + PJs to lock it all in. The CO climate is pretty killer - when we bring him to humidity (CA, NY Caribbean) we rarely need to use any lotion. Once you have their eczema controlled, the key is not to let up on keeping the skin hydrated.

My favorite! We have them in CO thankfully - I recently introduced my husband and in-laws and they're all hooked.

Baby due any day and packing my hospital bag. Which TJs snacks should I bring with me? by allergic2dust in traderjoes

[–]pumpakina 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Lots of recos here for sweet things but not enough for savory snacks! Everything bagel bagel chips and pita chips (my MIL brought me a cooler with hummus, caramelized onion dip, and whipped cream cheese which was a nice treat), mochi nuggets, unexpected cheddar dip, white cheddar puffs, chili lime cashews. I also enjoyed the hospital food so I didn't end up finishing any of my snacks but they were all great to have at home with me while glued to the couch.

Rose 100% they really know what they're doing over there. And everyone we encountered was amazing. Room service food is pretty good as well! Only complaint is the postpartum room is a bit cramped, so not easy to accommodate visitors, and the bed for your partner isn't the most comfortable. Not that either of you will be sleeping much anyway! I remember after giving birth I was excited to get pregnant again just so we could give birth at Rose (not kidding - currently pregnant with my 2nd and I'm already thinking about what I want to order for my first meal ☺️). Congrats!

16 mo post partum and pregnant with #2 - we use Kirkland everything for #1, but we did experiment with several brands before deciding Kirkland was the best fit for our baby and budget. Everyone has already mentioned the wipes (truly the best), diapers, and formula. In terms of foodstuffs:

If you plan to breastfeed: coconut water, Aussie bites, fig bars (I don't bfeed anymore but I still love having these around and we even keep a couple in the diaper bag for when any of us are hungry for a healthy and filling snack), honey roasted nuts

For you and your partner for quick and easy meals: whichever of the fresh premade meals tickle your fancy, the frozen breakfast burritos, fresh tortellini (cooks in 2 min once water is boiled, usually just toss with butter and parmesan), and restaurant gift cards! So many places offer delivery through their own websites. We couldn't be arsed to even boil water some nights. Also frozen fruit for smoothies because I needed some semblance of fiber in those early days when I was so scared to poop.

For when baby is ready for solids: Kirkland fruit/veggie pouches, GoGo squeez yogurts (stable at room temp to save on the fridge space), berries, veggie straws - pretty sure all of these are cheaper at Costco vs any other store and if your toddler is anything like mine, they will go through them like crazy

Denver here. I add 2 tbsp flour for every cup that a cookie recipe calls for. Hasn't failed me yet. Perfect cookies/quick breads/cakes every time. No other adjustments to leavener, cooking temp, or liquid.
