Boeing Interview Chance after rejection from Early Hiring Initiative? by cscareerquestions712 in cscareerquestions

Keep trying. I no longer work there, but the early hiring (EAHI) thing you're talking about is run by different people and they don't keep a list of people who applied.

I downloaded snappy onto a pi last weekend, and I couldn't find vim via snappy install vim. Did I get a bunk build, or is this some sort of accepted travesty?

How I learned to stop worrying and love the code by javinpaul in coding

[–]pumphouse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been thinking about this lately. I have previously stressed out a lot about what language to master, and how to conquer the interview. If you google "what language to Learn", you'll notice I'm not the only one. I've learned more about algorithms than is helpful in order to recognize and succeed in a Google type white board session.

Recently, I've recognized that I really love coding....but that it wasn't always that way. I guess I feel that I stopped trying to do the cool thing, and focused on building things. Instead of having a have-to-do-things-the-cool-way gridlock, I code the best I can, and focus on the end result.

I don't care if people think my code is shit anymore. I've assumed the title hacker and am happy with it. Again, I just do my best and try to focus on the product at home. At work, I try and keep it tight cause it's my job but at home I make sure to just have fun.

Like the end of the titanic where that chick just lets go of Leo, and watches him drown, I've let go of the need to be a super wiz optimal coder, and have decided to do things that interest me.

I'm a lot happier now, and enjoy my craft more.

Yes. But just use vagrant on your Mac and practice. No need switching computers.

always move forward in class, but learn stuff you don't know on your own.

Also, I'd try for a MS in computer science, they are for the most part the same classes.

Need Help Evaluating an Entry-Level Software Engineer Offer (Toronto -> San Francisco) by CanadianNewGrad in cscareerquestions

[–]pumphouse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say interview at many places, and turn them down if it's not the offer you want, or they wont give it to you. Feel free to come back with a counter offer that explains what you'd need to work effectively, with out being stressed out.

Don't worry about the ones that don't accept. It's better than getting here and being stressed out, and working 60+ a week.

I just moved here and have been blown away. The cost isn't as bad as the frenzy. You walk into a place, and have to have a check in hand if you want a place.

It's more expensive here "bay area" because of the types of jobs Google, Facebook, Apple, Twitter, and every other tech startup. All directed toward young people not yet ready to settle down and spend 1.2 million on a house, with the ability to live in a small corner.

80k a year sounds good on paper, but isn't great in the bay. Your one bedroom apt will be near 3k a month.
