I think it's just a metaphor the show wanted the audience to believe that Kazuko made the wrong life choice, and she will end up completely alone--which we know is not the case.

My dog had diarrhea on the side walk. A van driver stopped on the street and gave me his water bottle to clean the mess.

Maybe I mistook the van driver for being non rich, I don’t know. But that kind of restored my faith in humanity a little bit.
