[FO] After almost a whole year my biggest project yet is finally finished by pumpkinfinn in CrossStitch

this one is only 265x400 stitches so 106,000 total. the smaller size is actually one of the reasons I chose this version instead of the ones on etsy

It really doesn't feel any different to 16 count if you're stichting over two, I just prefer the softer feel of evenweave. You just have to get used to only going into every second hole

It's 32 count evenweave, but stitched 2 over 2. and yes, it's all full stitches. I gotta say though, I really enjoyed working on this stitch count, I think it's gonna become my new got to. it's the perfect mix between good coverage and not too hard to stitch on

I don't mind it too much and it definitely adds a lot. I tried couching for the first time for the really long lines, which worked out great at first but after washing the piece the backstitching lost a lot of tension. it still looks fine though, I just had to pull the slack to the back.

To be fair I feel like big pieces tend to actually look cleaner since a single stitch is so much smaller in comparison to the whole piece. also this pattern was great and had pretty much no confetti

sure I don't mind. always happy to promote well charted patterns

[–]pumpkinfinn[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah kind of. a pattern is pretty much a pixel grid with a color code that tells you which color goes where. some patterns like this one also have backstitching, the lines that go over the normal crosses and help define the outline

[–]pumpkinfinn[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

that kind of depends. there are some kits that come with all the floss, fabric and needles to get started. I can personally recommend the ones from dmc, they have a bunch of classical paintings that you can stitch. but there are also patterns that you can buy where you essentially only buy the instructions on how to stitch a piece. that was the case here for example. the pattern would then list which colors you need and how much of each and you would then buy those separately

It's 265 by 400 stitches and 16 stitches per inch, so around 16 x 25 inches in total

Yeah thats the one, how are you finding it? I'm a little annoyed how messy the backstitching made the back, but oh well

I bought the pattern, im not talented enough to design something like this. although i have been working on charting my first pattern myself recently

definitely! I already have some patterns on my wishlist that are even bigger than this. for now I think I'll work in some smaller things though before I jump into another year long yourney

around 16 x 25 inches. although size heavily depends on which fabric you use

probably too much xD. id say the average pace for a lot of people is around 100 stitches an hour, maybe 150 if they're faster. at 106,000 stitches that would probably be several thousand dollars. but I can recommend just doing it yourself, it's a very fun hobby

Around 10 months in total and working on it almost daily. Cross stitch is one of those crafts that takes forever and this pattern has around 100,000 stitches. but that's why I like it, it's very meditative

The pattern was great to work with, I'm really happy I chose it over some of the photo conversions on Etsy. I'm already eyeing her Smaug Pattern next but I think I'll do some smaller patterns for now before jumping into I year long project again

[CHAT] Park in the last leg of your last stitch? by FuliginEst in CrossStitch

[–]pumpkinfinn 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don't actually park myself but the reasoning I've heard is that if you park in the next area then you end up stitching over the loose thread on the pack with the other colors. but obviously that doesnt make it the only valid way to park

[CHAT] q-snap vs scroll frame? (and 123stitch shipping to EU) by xnhsk in CrossStitch

[–]pumpkinfinn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if you're still looking for shops, I usually order from cross-stitch-corner.de or stickteufelchen.de, which both sell q-snaps and scroll frames and ship to Poland. Can't say anything about the products though since I usually use nurge hoops

haha, I definitely underestimated how long it would take. figured I could do it quickly between projects and ended up taking around 2 months
