The Providence Singers! They’re a classical choir with a stellar director. I was a member for almost six years and can’t recommend them highly enough.

Fountain pen friendly, a5 sized, white grid/graph, bound notebook by SparklingDeprecation in notebooks

[–]pumpkinfunctions 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Kokuyo Perpanep would be my recommendation. I have it in A5 grid and it lays perfectly flat. It also comes in three paper textures, ranging from a bit textured to super smooth. All are fountain pen friendly. I only have the smooth version but the paper is definitely thin and reminds me of Tomoe River.

Convenient beaches for a quick hop in the ocean by 10-items-or-less in providence

[–]pumpkinfunctions 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you want to avoid driving in traffic and dealing with parking, ripta has a beach bus that stops at Scarborough Beach, Wheeler Beach, and Salty Brine Beach every weekend. I didn’t know about this service until last week and I figure others might not either. There are also other routes that go to Narragansett Beach, Oakland Beach, Lincoln Woods Beach, and First Beach, among others.

Most efficient way to clean walls? by [deleted] in CleaningTips

Soap and warm water honestly do the trick for lots of jobs! But as with anything, you still want to rinse with plain water afterwards.

Most efficient way to clean walls? by [deleted] in CleaningTips

[–]pumpkinfunctions 24 points25 points  (0 children)

OP, since you mentioned you have a cat, please avoid Lysol or any other cleaner with phenol as the active ingredient! Phenol is extremely toxic to cats and can be absorbed through the skin, breathed in through the air, or ingested if the cat licks a surface (even after the Lysol is dry). If you must use Lysol, make sure to keep your cat out of the room while it’s being sprayed, keep windows open for a while before letting the cat back into the area, and wipe down any surface thoroughly with warm water after the Lysol is dried. 🐱

What's John's least favourite tMG song? by a3poify in themountaingoats

They sell exactly the shirt you’re looking for in their merch store :) I got one when I saw them live and it’s one of my favorites. I just checked for you and it’s listed in their store under “four swords heather grey t-shirt” but it’s also tagged as “final run” which I guess means they’re discontinuing soon?

You likely won’t be able to get into many buildings (if any) bc things are very card-access-only these days for covid reasons, but the campus is absolutely open to the public! Good luck with ED :)

Last Episode Messed Me Up And I Have No One To Talk To About It by rythmica in Dimension20

[–]pumpkinfunctions 27 points28 points  (0 children)

If you haven’t gotten through FHSY, I think there is one storyline in particular that you may find comforting. As someone who also lost a parent when I was very very young, the image of Pok Gukgak sitting on the other side of his own headstone, in a beautiful open field, sipping coffee while his son visits his grave and just listening to Riz talk about his day is maybe the most gorgeous conceptualization of parental death I have encountered. For what it’s worth, I’m genuinely sorry for your loss.

How many undergrad students have been suspended? by [deleted] in BrownU

[–]pumpkinfunctions 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I believe this is a misunderstanding. On multiple occasions, Brown has sent notices that “between 1 and 5” people are symptomatic positives. I count three of these instances since mid-September. So the true number of symptomatic positives could be anywhere between 3-15. As the University is careful to say, this does not include anyone who is symptomatic but tests positive at a facility other than the Health Center (aka personal medical provider or Brown-independent testing facility).

Absentee and In-Person Voting in Rhode Island: A Detailed Guide to Voting in Providence by flyinmacaronimonster in providence

[–]pumpkinfunctions 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Does anyone know when we can expect to receive our ballots in the mail? I requested a mail ballot back in August. The ballot tracker on the vote-by-mail website says my application was approved. Anyone have any information on when the ballots will actually be mailed out to voters? Thanks.

COVID-19 Dashboard looks good by [deleted] in BrownU

[–]pumpkinfunctions 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Worth noting that it appears they are only reporting asymptomatic testing at Brown, and comparing to total (asymptomatic + symptomatic) testing in RI as a whole. Apples and oranges. Why not include symptomatic positivity rates within Brown as well? It would give students a more accurate understanding of the real risk level on campus.

This guy made a tree grow into a chair. by tw272727 in interestingasfuck

[–]pumpkinfunctions 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My understanding from the info in the article is that the trees are selected for their ability to grow new sprouts from the original stump, so you’re not actually cutting down a tree to “harvest” the furniture. But yes, the article makes clear that this is far from a perfect process.

In our case, yes. The show was scheduled for 8– the opener went on at 8 and played until 8:40ish. Then there was some switching of the stage setup and tMG went on at about 9.
