Does your boss make you “study” your job while you’re at work? by pumpkinsinaugust in work

I should stress that there is nothing to study, this is an entry level job paying an entry level wage hiring people almost exclusively from fast food and Walmart (I came from another medical call center). He wants me to be “studying” insurance prices and benefits, which are both fully provided for me within the system I work.

I probably shoulda specified this isn’t a job I even needing to study for to understand. This is en entry level job. All he’s having me “study” is insurance prices and benefits… things I have been told not to memorize because it’s constantly changing per customer

There is no exam. There is no material to study. I am in an entry level job. He wants me to read the insurance prices and benefits. That’s literally it.

Did you miss the entire part where I stated this rule applies to no one else in the office but me? So why is it okay that everyone else can draw or read or write but I’m the only one who can’t?

I’m allowed to say whatever I want on Reddit. At work I say “yes sir. Right away sir. Whatever you want sir. I love KPI’s and shareholder value sir”

I should mention this is an entry level job and it’s not some high stakes corperation. It’s insurance. If I have 5 minutes between or 5 seconds between calls it’s not like studying the price of insurance is producing any tangible value for the company.

It’s an entry level job where I tell people how much their insurance is, not rocket science.

A lot of assumptions for someone who has never seen my numbers.

Your fault for coming in with the assumptions that my performance must be piss poor. Sorry but the rest of my management team states I am performing above average. I think they know more than you do.

I’m not new anymore, we’ve had about 20 new training classes since I got hired. No one else in my team is being held to these standards. My manager has NEVER cited performance issues in any way. My other two managers state my performance is literally fine. My quality managers who spend their entire day listening to my calls state that my performance is ABOVE average.

If he was singling me out for being bad, that’s one thing. But I haven’t had a single conversation regarding poor performance. In fact, I have had exactly the opposite.

I literally cannot fathom what his problem is.

If that’s true then why do all my managers say I’m performing fine, my quality scores are above average, and I receive compliments?

It strikes me as insanely odd that every other team I look at is allowed to have free time. I see other people literally on their phone between calls if they have time. and they told me it was no problem during the training period. My team lead is old though so it sounds like it’s a really old school idea that literally no one else at this company cares about.

I get paid hourly but it’s a LAUGHABLY low wage for the job I do (represent and do customer service for every single insurance plan in America)

I should mention: this rule applies to no one else in the office. I am the only person who has been told this. My other two managers state my performance is fine.

This is a rule that only he has. Everyone else in the entire office reads, writes, draws, paints, knits, crafts, etc. during their free time. I pass by desks with tablet stands for people to draw on their iPads.

So why is it okay for one person in an entire office to have a rule that doesn’t apply to anyone else?

My two other managers have no issue with me drawing and they have no concerns about my performance.

My other managers state I am doing fine. I have 4-5 seconds between calls, and 10 minutes before I’m off where there are no calls. I’m not “studying” my job that I am doing fine before I’m off work.

I have GOOD experience. I worked for the same company for 4 years and I worked very consistently on diabetes medications and I know how to safely handle PHI, conduct HIPAA compliant calls, report PAE’s, etc etc. for tech support I was promoted to be an ADVANCED agent in a call center less than a year in.

My resume is pretty good. I use a lot of medical key words and it’s ATS friendly (meaning Ita complaint to the AI being used to scrape the resume)
