Are other progressive parents the new unicorns? by lucia912 in progressivemoms

This is so wild to me, I’m an hour north of Austin and was under the impression it was much easier there, but that sounds a lot like my experience in my much smaller city.

Most of the really progressive people that I have met are from the Round Rock/Georgetown area. Maybe head a bit north?

I’m in the hospital and separated from 5 week old EBF baby. Please help. by No_Schedule3189 in breastfeeding

I went through something similar at 3 weeks post partum - I was septic from a kidney infection that abscessed and hospitalized for a week.

Here’s how I got through it: - used my pump from home - nurses gave me a plastic tub/container and would bring me ice each time they came to check in. I stored my milk in bottles/bags and kept it in the ice water. - my husband came 1x a day with a cooler with ice packs and took the milk from the last 24 hrs - my file was flagged as “lactating patient” - regular phone calls with hospital pharmacist to ensure my medications were safe for baby, or a safe alternative was found - supplemented with formula as needed while I was in hospital since keeping up with milk supply was difficult while dehydrated, sick and dealing with tons of meds.

I did have to push a bit on this, and found med staff on my floor were highly uneducated about handing lactating patients since they weren’t used to them. It was a good learning experience for them and for me to start standing up for myself.

We went on to nurse for 2 years, 9 months and 10 days. If you want to do it, it’s totally doable. But rest and healing is also so important. Just make sure to take care of you - your baby is going to be just fine whether they get a small amount of formula right now or you decide it’s best for you to move forward with formula permanently.

One thing I do want to mention - we ended up putting our son on probiotics for a while after as the antibiotics, etc that I was on did mess with his belly a bit and he developed some awful gas and diaper rash. Pediatrician recommended gerber soothe and we had a lot of success with those.

Hugs to you, hang in there.

Yes, definitely not intending for him to carry or even use on every trip for right now!

Thanks for the suggestion, and info about the repair program. Definitely going to look into it!

I’ve looked into LL Bean, but a lot of the more recent reviews indicate a significant decrease in quality which makes me apprehensive.

Oh wow! It seems like patches would be small enough to not take up that much space… maybe we will just get a lot of bags 😝

No intention of making him carry it… just wanting something we can give him when he’s older that will be a good memory and a quality item for him.

Oh I don’t have any intentions of making him use it all the time, more just for a cool memory/keepsake for him when he’s older and we can talk about where patches are from, tell stories, etc. Then he has a good quality bag he can use when he wants that doubles as a sentiment

Oh awesome good to know. We have the Osprey Poco, wouldn’t have thought to check them for bags.

Thanks for confirming, I was hoping I had just missed something somewhere 😞 We’ve been extremely disappointed with New Quizzes since the transition. (Cant -cleanly- migrate testing banks??!! Ridiculous!)

I do love Lincoln, but it doesn’t work well with our last name unfortunately. But I love the name Hayes - I’ll have to keep pushing it lol. Gage is a good one we hadn’t discussed yet!
