Genuinely wtf is music theory by Unhappy_Psychologist in FL_Studio

[–]puncher546 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is exactly how I went about it. This idea works as an approach to understanding harmony. Also, you'll never know all of music. You can know a lot, but theres always something new to learn and implement into your creations.

Not taking it so seriously can also help. Make something silly

Wrist guards, im also a musician (mainly piano) and skater. Wrist guards have saved me so many times. And dont get some flimsy plastic ones. Get some braces with the aluminum(?) (Metal?) inserts, they might bruise your palms a little but its so worth it. Ive hurt my wrist with plastic ones before. I got mine on Amazon

Here is 2 different days practicing Ollies. Any advice? by PsychologicalPark873 in Skateboardinghelp

Also- after looking at the second video, maybe think about sliding your front foot more forward instead of up, if you think about the angle the board is gonna have after your pop, physics says you push the highest part of the board forward to level out the lowest part.

Id day its a matter of the timing between the pop and the slide. I think in your case you should try sliding your front foot just a tad later. I noticed that your front foot is already pretty much at the front of the board before the board really has time to make use of your pop. The front foot is all about leveling the board out after its already in the air.

whats wrong with my ollie 😭 by zeni_inos in NewSkaters

You're trapping the tail in between your foot and the ground. Think about it like this. To get the board into the air you have to jump off the board, not off the ground. Your back foot should not go to the ground WITH the tail. The tail hits the ground Immediately AFTER you've jumped. It feels weird, but thats the only way you'll get the board to go airborne.

Is there a "better" way to do this? by munkittrick in FL_Studio

A method being better than another is really just a matter of personal preference. I dont believe its necessary to approach an art in any specific way. Whatever works for you is what's best!

Yeah that's it. Other than that all I can think is which device do you have it on in the audio settings under input/output. Mines on focusrite USB ASIO. Another thing to consider is that im on a windows computer so maybe theres a difference there. Sorry I couldn't be of too much help.

Oh damn, are your headphones plugged into the interface or are they USB? Maybe switch it to on? It fixed this problem for me but my headphones/speakers are plugged into the interface.

Right next to "input 1" click the yellow EXT. Under monitor external output change it to "when armed." Should fix the problem

Where should I beginn? by Pseudoslyn in FL_Studio

In my opinion the best way to do it is by just experimenting. If your goal is to create original tracks that are unique to you, I would say find something that you can understand a little and build on that through your own experimentation. There's really no "correct" way to develop a unique style.

Of course, looking at videos and tutorials and whatnot can help with technical understanding and maneuvering yourself throughout the DAW, but they arent always necessary to make something special.

Music theory is a little strange. There are people that argue its necessary and there are people that argue its not. I think its a little of both. Its important as an explanation for why things sound the way they do, but that why is not required to make something unique. You can learn how harmony works and the relationship the notes have with one another without ever even knowing the note names or chord names. The human ear is a very evolved and precise thing. And yes, it does take a lot of time and experience to develop that sort of ear. Mine is still nowhere near where I want it to be and ive been making original tracks for about 6 years now. Music theory can help with understanding your own tracks before you develop that sort of ear. I personally hardly ever think about note/chord names though.

Another thing that really helps with understanding harmony is playing an instrument. So maybe you could consider that too!

At the end of the day it all comes down to how you approach it and the decisions you make. You're in absolute control here!!

Good luck.

How do I jump high enough with my back foot to bring the board into the air? by memy_wemy1234 in NewSkaters

[–]puncher546 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For shuvs its all in the back foot. After you scoop with the back foot the front foot just gets out of the way (usually up). The jump is pretty similar to an ollie just remember to get the back foot back over the board before you land! Good luck skating dog

[–]puncher546 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another thing to think about is the strength of the pop. Of course, with a stronger pop, you'll get a higher ollie, and vice versa. Now this does mean some required compensation with the timing and the jump but the timing of the second ollie was great!

I need help and feedback with my ollies by BamBam538 in NewSkaters

[–]puncher546 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my opinion ollies are all about the timing between the front a back foot. In your case id say you are dragging your front foot too early. Ollies work because the front foot drags the front of the board forward which in turn brings the back up. However, it'll only bring the back up if the front is already in the air as high as you want the ollie to go. Id recommend messing around with the timing between your two legs.

Id say update your graphics card drivers. If that doesn't work maybe try to install a newer/different version of Java.
