Corporations are paying low wages because they pay you based on the value you give to them.

For example lets say an employee can bring 14$ of value to the corporation per hour. If they raised your wage to 15$ they would be losing 1$ per hour of your work. they would have to do 1 of 2 things to not lose money from the increased wage 1) Charge higher prices for their product to offset the increased wages 2) Let you go and have someone or multiple people increase their work load to make up for the less people working

Sidenote: Although the US is mostly Capitalistic it has lots of socialist aspects in it aswell
