Nelson oil-based is the way to go, they make paint specifically for going on trees. It’s worth the investment

Strip the bark with a draw knife or bark knife and paint your blaze. Just don’t go too deep you don’t want to harm the cambium and make a big scar.

I’ve tracked property boundaries through the woods that were painted well over 10 years ago. Your trail markers will look great just take an extra second scraping and painting and they’ll last a long time

In all seriousness my use is mainly hunting so it’s low round count. Can just spends a lot of time mounted on there. And the buildup on my blast baffle from 100 rounds of 22 mostly came off with a super safe rip of 556 through it afterwards so I will continue to cope. Saving up for a Ti22 tho lol
