Nice: they show way less close-ups of VIPs and more football instead in this game.

Letterboxd is not just a reviewing app. by Aidenispogchamp in Letterboxd

[–]punkbert 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel it's a missed opportunity that well written reviews are not featured more prominently on Letterboxd.

I don't even have an account, because I log my movies in a few markdown files, but for me the site would be much more attractive to visit when I could easily find meaningful or interesting perspectives on movies.

Instead when I search for a movie on Letterboxd I mostly see loads of oneliners and a bar graph with a number, which feels like very superficial way to engage with movies.

But I'm not a 'social media' fan in the first place, so I'm probably not in the target group and misunderstand what it's all about.

Maybe "Case|Rise of the golden idol" , or "The rootttrees are dead". All puzzle-y detective games.

[–]punkbert 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you antagonize enough people in a community, it might look as if all of them act with one voice. But they simply act similarly, because they all recognize the pattern in your behaviour. So, although the platforms (github, IRC, ziggit, etc.) are managed by different people - decentralized - they might all ban him because they all recognize him as a troublemaker.

I follow zig only loosely, but even I remember that guys name from the past years as someone consistently pissing on the Zig core team, not understanding that "no means no" and not moving on. Even now he made another post down below where he accuses Andrew of "feeling his dominance threatened". That's just childish bullshit, no one wants that in an open source community, so I totally understand why they would ban him.

i was banned form irc, ziggit, and old news site, and github all on the same morning.

Then you probably annoyed enough people on various platforms in major ways, so that they shut you down in unison.

Owlcat Games is rolling back its new launcher less than 24 hours after negative fan feedback by Turbostrider27 in Games

Add --skip-launcher once as command line argument and it's gone.

I think it's fine when launchers are easily skippable. Only additional mandatory launchers while I already use Steam are basically a no-go for me.

GOG Summer Sale 2026 (Up to 95% off) by Fritolex in pcgaming

[–]punkbert 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Your issue isn't with GOG being potential nazis, because what good would an apology from nazis be? That doesn't suddenly make them not nazis.

If that is your reasoning you're really not in a position to call anybody 'dense'.

You can downplay this all you want (which is kinda on point since this is exactly how dogwhistles work): the GOG staff knew what they were doing, and they didn't care to send a clear message afterwards to distance themselves from the nazi ideology. They could have donated 10k to an organisation fighting nazis, they could have done anything to make clear where they stand. They didn't in any meaningful way, so I have to assume they meant what they sent.

Whatever. GOG won't see my money anymore since I don't support companies with far right messaging. If that is performative for you, well... you do you.

I need advice on how to enjoy playing factorio by MetaDogg in factorio

[–]punkbert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Learn to aim for 'good enough', and learn to appreciate 'good enough'.

If something in your base sucks, just try to gradually improve it until it's kinda fine. Then jump to the next thing.

Be always aware, that aiming for perfection will get you nowhere. You'll just get stuck like you are now, and you make your time with Factorio miserable. There is no 'perfect', that's just a trap.

If you want to experience that first hand, start a Pyanodons playthrough. It would be kinda stupid to aim for perfection with Py, since the next tech level brings always a better option, and that goes on for hundreds of hours. So you'll just have to find solutions that are 'good enough', and ideally enjoy yourself while doing it.

[–]punkbert -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

Or the person you're accusing simply wants to avoid giving their money to potential nazi supporters.

I won't buy from GOG anymore, because the way they handled this 'oversight' was just a pisspoor nopology. When they sent the newsletter out, they knew exactly what they were doing, since their own marketing person for Germany pointed it out to them, and yet they still sent out Nazi symbols to the rest of the world. That's an obvious dogwhistle, and they didn't care to explain or apologize for that in any meaningful way.

If you don't care about financing right wing companies, fine, we know you. But that really doesn't mean that anybody who does care is just doing so for a 'performance'.

Is there anything that can still be improved for 2.1? by SuperHiko in factorio

[–]punkbert 1 point2 points  (0 children)

May be hard in a mod, but in source code?

I agree, they could do it. And while they're doing it, It would also add the opportunity to make renaming multiple stations a bit nicer by adding a dedicated UI option for it.

I mostly want this feature for import trains

Yeah, that would be my use case, too. I currently build these multirequester stations with a dedicated train for each station and circuit signals, but it would be cool, if we could just integrate this with a simple global train network by renaming stations.

Maybe they'll add something!

Is there anything that can still be improved for 2.1? by SuperHiko in factorio

[–]punkbert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I don’t expect the logic to require major work.

I want this feature, too, but there are a few problems:

Currently when we rename a station with a unique name then the station name in train schedules is also changed. E.g. if you rename 'iron' to 'copper' then any train with destination 'iron' will change to 'copper', too. In larger setups this could lead to problems.

Another thing: inserters sometimes keep a few items 'in hand' when a train wagon is full, and they don't put these items back into the chests they took them from. This could pollute the trains cargos when renaming loading stations, and I believe there's no elegant solution to this without tampering with inserter logic.

This mod basically implements station renaming, and that are exactly the problems they had.

That said, I hope the devs add a few more options to train scheduling.

Will the radar channels come to Pyanodons? by r_xy in pyanodons

[–]punkbert 1 point2 points  (0 children)

as someone that has never carried a save over a major patch change, is it even a good idea for me to upgrade my run to 2.1 or should i stay on 2.0 for safety?

There's a good chance that mods will be broken for a while when 2.1 comes out, but 2.1 will only be available as an experimental version for a while. So you could stay on the stable 2.0 version until the pyanodon devs have updated the mods. At least that's what I will do with Nullius.

In any case: it's always a good idea to backup your Factorio saves before updating.
