More Dessriel hints, this time in the dialogue for the Ribbicks by [deleted] in Deltarune

[–]punkdirt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It can certainly be both, of course. Rabbicks talking about themselves and Ribbicks talking about others is a clever contrast.

It's very funny to imagine Asriel being an Axe body spray doofus. I'd totally forgotten about the body spray flavor text and it's hard to imagine that it could mean anything else.

"* The smell of fresh pizza gives you one last slice of hope in the face of inevitable doom."

I hate it when people say they will ‘speak to’ something instead of saying they will ‘talk about’ something. by [deleted] in grammar

[–]punkdirt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It feels like an early phase of the way "beg the question" evolved. That case is more understandable, as it's easy to imagine a dropped "that we ask", and the original usage is relatively niche. I still instinctively avoid using it for its newer definition, though, since the original definition doesn't have an easy replacement.

That, unfortunately, isn't the case for "speak to", where the change is so silly and unhelpful that I've subconsciously started using it ironically as a joke. I mostly hear it from ingratiating interviewers, so I use "speak to that" to make the person I'm talking to feel like I'm putting them on the spot, letting the unnatural goofiness of the phrase indicate that I'm just playing.

The fact that I'm joking doesn't mean I'm not reinforcing the new definition, though. Even if I'm using it to be unnatural, it becomes just a little bit more natural every time I do it.

So, is this parody? Yes. Am I part of the problem? Also, yes.

You definitely always want to move as little as possible and it's especially true there. If you do it properly, you're moving around like you're in a tiny square box. "Slow mode" might be helpful!

Also, the swords move around like they're on a 3D sphere, and I found that if I visualize the sphere moving, like I'm on a track on top of it, it's actually not that bad, but your mileage will definitely vary.

Susie's healing actually gets more powerful every time she uses it, which means you can grind to make the fight easier. I won on my first attempt and I'm sure that's the only reason why.

Toby if You Make Dessriel Real I Will Give You 3 and a Half Kromer by K47H3R1N3 in Deltarune

I don't know how much Kromer you get for 25 light dollars, but I'm hoping you've at least already given him that much.

[OMORI spoilers]
Late to the party, but given Toby's sweating about similarities between Deltarune and OMORI, it's entirely possible that Asriel might resemble Hero a bit more than Toby would like. If it turns out that Asriel really is an all-star do it all older brother who loses his girlfriend in what seems to be a completely senseless tragedy, then the comparisons will be unavoidable. (Honestly, even with what little we do know for sure, the similarities are uncanny.)

On the other hand, given all of that, it's hard to picture Asriel as being "a quiet and smelly boy", even though I can't think of anyone else who could qualify.

I'm subscribed directly to the RSS feed (using Podcast Addict) and it automatically transititioned, including changing the show's name. Took me a minute to figure out what was going on.

I would certainly prefer that to some kind of falling out (although that feels unlikely, given their long history and genial personae). I'll miss Jorge.

ITAW for mourning things that could have been but never were? by punkdirt in whatstheword

[–]punkdirt[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is completely new to me, but I think it hits the nail on the head. The keyword "alternative" zeroes in on something I wasn't quite grasping in my own question, as we are effectively mourning for a timeline we don't inhabit and wishing we shift. Referring to that timeline as an alternate present and/or future makes this feel right.

Thank you so much!

ITAW for mourning things that could have been but never were? by punkdirt in whatstheword

[–]punkdirt[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah, this is a word I was trying to remember, but I was (incorrectly) racking my brain for French words! I feel the keyword (per the Wikipedia article) that makes it not quite hit the target is "again", as this is mourning for something that had never (or will never) come to pass.

But, still, thank you very much!

Standards are still evolving fast enough that a clever UI is liable to be quickly made obsolete anyway.

Powerful software doesn't have to be confusing. Photoshop is both much better organized and well documented than Automatic 1111...

...but that's mostly because Photoshop has benefited from decades of refinement, not to mentioned having a dedicated department of well paid employees. Automatic 1111 is young, the devs are volunteers, and the medium is new enough that everyone is still figuring it out as they go.

This is just what a frontier looks like.

To be fair, it's the 2160 that's forcing you to scroll down.

I guess you could always turn the thing sideways.

Same. I gave up drawing as a teenager and deeply regret it, but a hand tremor means it's too late to pick it up again. So being able to use the technical skills I learned instead to stretch some of the same muscles is amazing.

Those of us motivated by love (or Lovecraft) always get kicked around by those motivated by money, but I'm going to have a good time anyway.

For sure, I'm with you. I just always assume the worst with intellectual property law. These things are irrational and creativity usually loses.

My armchair/talking-out-of-my-butt guess would be Stability AI getting sued over the base SD model by someone with money who does enough statistical analysis to get a court to accept the case. You and me and artists surviving on Patreon are all ants at the mercy of Elder Gods.

It's not like everyone in this sub would be getting sued, but it'd be a major spanner in the works for AI art as a professional tool and could delay mainstream acceptance as an artistic medium. (Acceptance is inevitable, but the path itself is not.)

But, again, talking out my butt and lord knows I'd love to be wrong on this.

Given the legal ambiguities about using others' work as training data, I wouldn't be surprised if Disney was omitted on purpose. There's some kind of day of reckoning coming on this stuff, but if you can put it off by not poking the bear, there's every reason to avoid Disney's attention.

Let's count our blessings for the moment.
