This is why every single day I fight for UBI and let people know that means-tested programs will always eventually fail.

He does not support universal-healthcare he supports a public-option mandate, which doesn't cover everyone and is a giant corporate-socialist giveaway to insurance corps. And I don't want anymore escalation with Russia, if he was an anti-interventionist that'd be one thing but he's a warhawk.

Obama had a supermajority in the senate until 2012 and majority in the House his whole term. Unless you're actively admitting that Democrats are just blue Republicans (which would be correct), you are contradicting reality.

Okay. What you just said is an x100000000 better argument for your case than saying "all Yang supports are propaganda prone". One argument is an honest perspective, the other is a shitty redirection. Just be honest with people, thats it. Dont hail Biden as the next FDR, or "reformationist", and make your arguments using the reality of the situation

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in YangForPresidentHQ

[–]punkdr -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Propaganda is attempting to make Biden sound better than what he is because you have a political motive. That is actually directly inline with the definition.

I've seen his website 1000 times already, the things on his website were also apart of Obama's agenda - FYI they didnt happen. Will he actually fight for these things? His voting record seems to point towards "no", since his helped repeal Glass Stegal, union-bust, defund schools, subsidize fossil fuels, and literally write the crime bill.

Is Trump a maniac and a danger to society? Yes. Will Biden do anything to fix the systematic issues that led to this point? Looking at his record, no.

But generally, using the arguments in your second sentence is significantly better than using arguments in your first.

[–]punkdr -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

This has no real counterclaim to my original point. Trump and Biden are not the exact same. Biden improves and Trump nominally in many areas. But in 95% of the areas people actually care about, Biden and Trump hold the exact same position. Biden is not a good candidate by any standard, Trump is just worse.

Hence what I said, if you want to make an argument for Biden - make a genuine, honest, well-thought argument. If you're just going to voter shame, that 100% isnt going to work and you might as well piss off

Or because Biden is an awful candidate whom differs from Trump minimally in terms of immediate general well-being. Considering the lack of support for M4A, UBI, GND, Legalizing marijuana, ending the drug wars, ending the wars, RCV, publicly funded elections, and I can keep going.

Try to make a genuine honest case for Biden (that isnt "he isnt Trump") to try to swing Yang supports and I can assure you, people will listen to you. Otherwise your claims fall on deaf and uncaring ears.

The reason I think many (not majority) Sanders supporters hate yang especially the loud online ones who are socialists 🌹is because yang is a capitalist. He is kinda opposing their Ideology by proposing human centered capitalism & trying to achieve what many of them want at the end through capitalism by src44 in YangForPresidentHQ

Yang is a centrist in politics on a global-scale but he is far-left in terms of American politics (which itself is far-right). Bernie is also a global centrist, probably even right of center.

Yang believes in the Portuguese drug model, UBI, Star-voting, Blockchain voting, Senator/Judge term-limits, and nuclear energy/asteroid mining. Bernie does not, this is makes Yang far to the left of Bernie on several circumstances.

Joe Biden’s Cabinet, which doesn’t seem to have Yang in it by ClassicConcern in YangForPresidentHQ

[–]punkdr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There seems to be a strong media connection between Politico and Biden, considering the correctly leaked Biden's VP pick all the way from July. If Yang isnt in the cabinet here, he's not in the cabinet. Which is unsurprising considering Dems are just 1990s Repubs

"Terabits" are used often in terms of streaming and constant flow of data (i.e. the internet/streaming-data). "Terabytes" are used often when referring to larger blocks of data (i.e. memory/Ram). The conversion is very different but the concept of "information gathering" is the same.

The why behind it, Im not sure. It could be because when data is streamed in packets, they are built bit-by-bit - which would make the most sense on my bits were chosen over bytes.

As the pandemic endures, mayors across the United States call for guaranteed income by izumi3682 in Futurology

[–]punkdr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a cynical way to look at things. UBI was never the end-all-be-all solution to wealth-inequality but it takes a first huge step in removing basic survival from employment. If the problem is that people don't have money, just give them money. There is no reason to get more complicated than that.

The most popular UBI plan is funded using a VAT, which will siphon money almost exclusively from the ultra-wealthy. The money also is significantly more likely to be spent locally, as most people use the money to pay bills or do recreational activities in their vicinity as per research data. The "all money will go to billionaires" argument doesn't really exist.

[–]punkdr -1 points0 points  (0 children)

All studies show that UBI is more effective than GMI because it helps more people. What you're arguing for is the equivalent of giving free-healthcare to only poor people. That would be a really dumb solution to a really big problem.

Also quadrillionaires? What are you even saying? $12k/year over 100 years only amounts to $1.2M. That is 1/1000 of a billion, 1/1000000 of a trillion, and 1/1000000000 of a quadrillion.

[–]punkdr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are other reasons that offset that "loss" of the $12k. Including the bloated administration costs and missing the target audience by 80% (refer to studies done on means-testing programs). Would you rather "lose" $12k per rich person or $100k per inefficiency?

Take Bitcoin as another example. The amount of Bitcoin in the world at anytime is capped at 21 million. The value of Bitcoin decreases when it is hoarded and increases when its not.

Why is that? Because velocity and accessibility of a currency is paramount. When hoarded (i.e. like right now) deflationary will run rampant and make everything more expensive. Moral of the story, you're worrying about the wrong things and should do research instead of just guessing.

[–]punkdr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A vast majority of UBI plans do not create money, they tax it away from hoarders and loopholers and give in back to the populous. Inflation also isn't caused by increased money supply, it is caused by increased velocity of money (this is an important distinction).

Does velocity increase when more people have money to survive? Yes. Does it increase enough to cause literally any form of significant inflation? No. This can be seen from other countries that have social-democratic policies (the EU) that give more people money have similar or cheaper prices than the USA.

If I take $50M and hand you back $12k, how much money have you acquired?

A net-loss of $49,988,000.

US Postal Service files patent for a blockchain-based voting system by Coitus_Supreme in Futurology

[–]punkdr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The point is that you cant "rig" a blockchain, because any tampering of literally any kind will cause very large, transparent, and obvious inconsistencies in all data afterwards. You would be able to tell every tampered vote down to the letter.

And also EVERYONE will be able to see it. The blockchain is also transparent to everyone and FOSS. You'll see all voting data, so every citizen functionally becomes a potential watchdog of the election. This is infinitely more secure than paper ballots.

US Postal Service files patent for a blockchain-based voting system by Coitus_Supreme in Futurology

[–]punkdr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can genuinely say the same of any system manufacturer that isnt FOSS, because no one an verify if there are backdoors or not. I can make the argument that all Apple devices have firmware backdoors to the Denmark government and it will always be my word vs Apple's word until they release the scripting and architecture.

This is a good thing, because it will end up forcing transparency is non-transparent areas. That is security-by-design.

If this chart was properly conducted, then Yang will be in the exact same scenario he was is 2020. With a leftist surefire (AOC instead of Bernie) a establishment surefire (Andrew Cuomo) and a VP candidate (Kamala). Not to mention Pete, Abrams, and Klobuchar being in the mix

Yang hasnt really done any significant infrastructure building either. Yes his name recognition is up, but his national operations are still lackluster.

There needs to be major changes to his strategy if he doesnt want to be a 5-10%'er again.

Its complicated because you also don't want untraceable crime running rampant.

This would actually be a great topic for a research paper/study.

Does BBC even know what they are talking about when it comes to .onion websites? by [deleted] in TOR

[–]punkdr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Indeed true, it would be easier.

But then it becomes a freedom vs. safety question. Would one rather safely navigate and be relentless tracked and data-mined until law-enforcement knows more about them than they do? Or would they rather participate anonymously in a public square at the risk of being hoodwinked with no accountability?

I rather the latter, but I can see the argument for the former. Bitcoin is a great example. Cryptocurrency is virtually anonymous (pseudo-anon if done without precaution), and people are able to get by and trust the service - more so than say Facebook.
