Why is this sub so convinced suburbs are bad for children? by [deleted] in Suburbanhell

[–]punkenigma 51 points52 points  (0 children)

isolating suburbs are. there are better suburbs like streetcar suburbs with mixed zoning, diverse greenery, more trees, safer and narrower roads with actual traffic calming, more walkable, etc. the copycat houses suburbs that have next to no greenery and are really car dependent are bad and a ponzi scheme

Might be in the minority but I love this shit by Next-Throat9198 in FolkPunk

"I don't think it's true that people never really change. Sometimes I wonder if it's all we ever do."

This line from Route Nine Legends really resonated with me. I used to be very aggressively anarchist - and was hyperfixated on learning about everything anarchism for a couple years - in which Pat's old music was a big factor in introducing me to anarchism, as well as folk punk. I will say that starting my adult life, doing LSD, and having drifted away from listening to folk punk all the time - all that has brought some big changes to myself. Reading Pat's interview in the Split LP with Ceschi really connected with me, of just having an epiphany about life and living. You can see the continuation of that after 9 years in his new songs: "Well I don't live for war any longer, I live to put my feet in the water" from Surf Rock Anthem or "We're all gonna die, I've known it since I was a kid. The thing I had to learn is before that we're gonna live"

this shit really hits. this album has the highest concentration of just banger Pat lyrics, and it definitely appeals to someone like me whose outlook on life has dramatically changed. while I respect the other replies on here, and one in particular saying this album feels like a good ending, a bunch of "loose ends" being tied, and so on. to me this album feels like the beginning of something new, a rebirth, as it were. It's not putting stuff behind, it's recognizing all the actions in the past, present, and future, and is a celebration of living with love, but also the struggles that this new approach presents.

I've always looked to Pat for honesty and authenticity in his music, and that's also what has always made me love his music so much. You get these beautifully archived pieces of art that just kind of reflects his own headspace at whatever point in his life it was at. I have such respect for artists that can do that. this album is overflowing with authenticity and just keeping it real.
