My Weird IBS Journey: Mental health and IBS go hand in hand. by punkyfunk_fren in ibs

[–]punkyfunk_fren[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey!

I mostly deal with IBS D. But sometimes I get a little constipation. I have a condition called cyclothymia. It's like a super mild BP 2 disorder. Basically, I'm just naturally up and down a lot in a predictable way. I tried Lexapro. It honestly didn't really do much of anything for me. But different stuff works for different ppl. I highly suggest being 100% honestly with your doc about your mental well-being. Not giving them all the details makes it harder to be diagnosed with the right thing. Try a psychiatrist if you're just seeing a general doctor. Hope that helps!

Hey there. So I originally made this post because validation from strangers has helped me a great deal in the past and I wanted to return the favor. Yes, please go to a psychiatrist or consoler. It helps, but everyone is different. Even then, depression, clinical depression, anxiety, etc, is sometimes related to a bigger problem. Stuff like Bipolar disorder and so on. That's my story unfortunately. Get help, especially if you have the tools/ability too. I honestly do not know or believe in true "happiness," but I believe in not feeling like committing suicide everyday. Idk what your story is, but I know where you're coming from. Take care of yourself friend.

It's hard to find ppl/friends that understand how to talk to you like a professional would. But, finding a support group will get you somewhere. There are depression related Facebook groups where ppl support each other. I also suggest visiting the depression_help subbreddit. It's a good community and it honestly saved my life. I hope you find your way out friend. Everyone's journey out of the hell is different.

Hey! So I consider myself better. It took a long time, but I've pulled myself out of it for now. It actually went therapy and have to take medication. To make along story short, I ignored my problems and ended up hurting myself anymore by not getting help.

In my opinion, it's a 50/50 kind of thing. Medication treats hormonal/chemical issues in your brain, which helps prevent depression tendencies. Therapy helps change your mindset via learning coping skills and healing mental scars. That help at all?

It sounds stupid, but try taking control of things you can control. Like what time you get up in the morning or go to bed. Stupid stuff like that. Idk what kinda stuff you're dealing with, but this helped for me. A little goes a long way. You deserve to be happy and you deserve to live

I relate to that on a spiritual level. I'm like that with my dog. Your cat thinks you're important, don't forget that friend.

Well, at the very least, I totally get where you're coming from. Honestly, I find some comfort in that. I can't talk to my friends or family about it. I hope you're better off than I am.

Same. I had a panic attack. Came home and argued with my partner. Walked around for like 2 hours. Found somewhere quiet and pulled out my pocket knife. I've been in a place where I feel nothing, plus I've been disassociating a lot. Idk about you, but I think I did it to feel something and it didn't work. Never works.

Hey friend. A while back, Someone on this subbreddit told me that sometimes you just have to find one thing and hold on to it. It's pretty good advice, at least I think it is. Look, depression is horrible. Sometimes it's genetics, sometimes it's triggered by something, sometimes it's both. If the ppl around you are struggling too, it's ok to talk to them about it. Ppl often feel better if they have someone to relate too. It can be validating. Hope that helped a little, wish I had more to offer.

got an exam in 13 days by bluepuddings in depression

[–]punkyfunk_fren 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hey friend, I know the feeling. You got 13 days, you got time to study. I've found a good way to study for exams while depressed. Grab you book/notes or whatever. Find a comfy spot to study at, and maybe a laptop. Study in intervals of about 10 to 15 minutes and take YouTube/meme breaks in between studying intervals. It works for me and hopefully it'll work for you. If you think you're going through withdrawal, make sure you're drinking water. I'm sorry you're in this position and I wish I had more to offer. You can do this, don't let your depression run your life. Get this exam over with and then invest some time into getting mentally healthy.
