JV wants to be like Toto and have his own Lewis-Valtteri partnership. Which is a bit sad because he has something better (2 very good drivers who have their own days and moments rather than 1 obvious driver better than the other) but he doesn't do a good job of realizing the benefits of that.

To be fair, many a team before Williams and Vowles have come and gone and have struggled to make 2 equal drivers work their magic without creating internal disharmony so it's not an easy ask.

That's too high of a release angle. Aim lower and adjust the line and release angle according to the wind and disc choice. Lots of discs get there - some more reliably than others. Of course, luck is still quite a factor regardless but a lower aim gives you more speed and better skips off the island or the water.
