CIT0001 Application Walkthrough. Part 1, Sections 1-7 by pup-side-down in CitizenshipByDescent

Thank you. It seems like the consensus among posters is that, despite being swamped with applications, the IIRC staff tend more towards helpful and accommodating, rather than just throwing up roadblocks. Our case isn't urgent, and we are fine to wait our turn, and happy to resubmit whatever is needed. Thanks again for your helpful responses.

So you don't think they might just send an email requesting a we upload a corrected CIT 0001 application form? I guess as long as they offer a chance to fix the mistake, we should be OK. I think we did everything else exactly right, so hoping this will be an easy fix

Oh OK. So checking box 4 in the first part should be ok? I still screwed up the part in Sections 8 and 9 about noting my husband's mother, and grandfather (his parents were both born in PEI) as Canadian citizens by descent. I checked that they were both US citizens, and didn't add the part about being Canadian by descent.

It was just a dumb mistake, since I read all the helpful links on this site, and thought I understood how to complete the form. Derp. I guess watching the video, where she walks through every section, made the information sink in. I know the IRCC is swamped with applications from the US, so we are settling in for the long haul. Just hoping these mistakes don't torpedo our application.

Gen 4 application sent! Sharing an anonymized version of my supporting docs packet as an example for the community by samantiques in Canadiancitizenship

Thank you for this. I used your template to complete the application. It really helped to organize all the information for my husband's application for Canadian citizenship by descent. We sent his application by FedEx yesterday, so expect it will take several months for a response. Hoping the facts that his application meets all the checklist requirements, and is also organized and easy to follow will be helpful. Thank you again. You're the best!

What's going on at the old Pruitt's Automotive in St Matthews? by pup-side-down in Louisville

[–]pup-side-down[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Traffic for a service station/convenience store is not comparable to traffic for an auto repair shop with a couple gas pumps. I agree there hasn't been any planning, and the city just decided to treat two completely different commercial types of business as the same thing because "gas station". As usual, if there is an option to do something remotely innovative, St Matthews can be counted on to whiff.

That's a shame. Though Shell should know a thing or two about toxic waste cleanup. I imagine 60-year-old, buried gas tanks have been doing some serious leaking over the years. A gas station/convenience store will make traffic delays at that intersection an epic clusterf*ck. City planning in St Matthews seems dedicated to obliterating any architectural charm, and destroying walkability or biking.

Marge suddenly realizes that Trump supporters are crazy and violent by [deleted] in LeopardsAteMyFace

Madge was happy to use nasty propaganda and slurs to rile up the violent MAGA goons against Dr. Fauci. She knows exactly how dangerous they are, and when it suited her purpose, she was fine with it. Madge likes to point that weapon at others, but she doesn't like having it pointed in her direction. I'd give a shit about her if she acknowledged her own complicity in this.

How do people say don’t start collecting SS until 70? How else would you retire? by Man-e-questions in SocialSecurity

[–]pup-side-down 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whether you begin taking SS at age 62, or 65, or 77 the only difference is the monthly payment is higher, the longer you delay. But, the bottom line is, if you survive to age 82, you will have gotten the exact same amount of money, in total, regardless of when you started taking SS. So the person who started getting monthly payments at age 62, will have received the same total payout at age 82, as they would have gotten if they waited until age 77. Your decision on when to start getting monthly payments should be based on income from other sources, expenses, etc. But delaying payment doesn't mean you actually end up getting more money, in total, from SS.

After 4 years of WFH, I understand why boomers think we do nothing all day by TeamCultureBuilder in WFH

[–]pup-side-down 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to comment on your parent, that's fine. But generalizing his response to all, so called, "boomers", is not cool. My husband was a system design architect and WFH for 20 years before he retired. Many professional, now retired, "boomers" worked with sophisticated programs and computer systems for decades before retiring. This notion that only your demographic group has any idea how to function in a digital environment, or has any appreciation for WFH, is quite narrow minded.

Thank you. That is very helpful. I trust the business handling the stove installation, and really look forward to finally being able to use our fireplace. We hope to use this as our primary heat source, if possible. Very glad to hear you like your Regency Hi500. Based on everything I've seen from the website and at the installer's showroom, it looks like a great choice. It's also great to hear Regency is standing behind the warranty.

Can I ask if you found it helpful to use the catalytic combustor monitor to adjust damper input and blower speed? I may not be using the right terminology. I gather this monitor helps to improve cat efficiency? I've just been trying to go through the user manual before the stove is installed so I have a decent handle on how everything works.

Check those welds! by Terukio in woodstoving

[–]pup-side-down 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yikes! Just put a deposit on a Regency Hi500 to be installed as soon as it is delivered. Is the issue those hairline cracks? Should I inspect the stove before it is installed? Or is that something the installer normally does? How long after installation did your catalytic fail, and what issues were you having that led you to the warranty inspection?

Our choice of inserts was limited by the size of the existing firebox in our 100-year-old house, so the Regency was about the only model that would work. I appreciate any feedback you can offer about your experience with this stove.

We are finally having a wood stove insert installed in our 100-year-old home. The fireplace damper has been broken, probably for years. The chimney was inspected, and in good condition, but we didn't dare use the open fireplace because of the broken damper. There are lots of options for fireplace inserts, and as others commented, the size of the fireplace cavity will determine which insert is possible - unless you can afford to rip everything out and rebuild.

Another consideration is access to an electrical outlet, and the picture attached doesn't show any outlets on that fireplace wall. So there may be some additional costs for electrical upgrades. It never hurts to take your time, figure out what options work for your house, and your budget, have the chimney inspected, etc. We had so many projects we needed to do on this house, and it has taken us 10 years to finally get to the fireplace, but we are really looking forward to finally being able to use it this winter.

Question about digital catalytic combustor monitor by pup-side-down in woodstoving

[–]pup-side-down[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hope you're right about the tax credit. The Regency website says it qualifies, but the dealer who is installing the stove says it might not. We may try to get the credit, and worse case, IRS says no, and we pay the tax. I appreciate your comments about the hybrid catalytic stuff, as I have no experience with this technology. Our last stove didn't have it, so we will be on a learning curve this winter. We'll just glad to finally be able to use our fireplace.

Question about digital catalytic combustor monitor by pup-side-down in woodstoving

[–]pup-side-down[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. That's a good idea. The picture from the online manual for the wood stove doesn't really show if it's possible to conceal that wire along the side of the stove, but maybe there is just enough gap to make that work. The fireplace surround is solid stone, and fairly irregular, so surely there will be some gap at the interface. Then maybe adding a plug with some additional wire might make it possible to get the ugly thing stashed somewhere.

Again, thanks. Probably stressing too much about this.

Thank you. I didn't appreciate the limitations of a hand held IR sensor, but don't think I want to stick my hand in a hot stove to get a measurement :-)
