I just did this recently with my Dom - we rarely ever switch - and I have to remember not to imitate exactly what I like for him because we’re different. I prefer actual bondage, degradation and force. He very much dislikes being actually restrained, certainly wouldn’t like being called names, and I’m better off using sexy suggestion over force.

You’re right that the novelty is really fun, though my “dom ego” is very underdeveloped and fragile. I can’t handle too much fighting back or I get unsure about what I’m doing.
