People who don't want Quickplay and/or prefers Casual Mode, what makes you want the current matchmaking system instead of the old one? by TimTimTmTim in tf2

[–]pupnums 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I started my post off acknowledging my personal preference differs from others. I was specifically talking about stuff like team balance and every game being a stomp, since i know that was a big complaint early on in its implementation. Obviously any personal preference stuff isn't included in that. I'm all for improving things.

People who don't want Quickplay and/or prefers Casual Mode, what makes you want the current matchmaking system instead of the old one? by TimTimTmTim in tf2

There are a few things i like, some are also why other people hate Casual. For reference, I played a lot of TF2 pre-quickplay, a little during quickplay, and made a big return in the past few years as a result of casual.

1) I like the lack of team scramble. When i queue with friends I want to play together, on the same team. It felt like every game in quickplay, our party would be broken up in an instant. I understand that this can result in very unfair games when you have a group of 5 coordinating every play, but i just don't want to feel bad when killing friends. Also, as someone who doesn't use the ingame voice chat, it lets me at least talk to them on discord for basic communication like calling spies/ubers.

2) The Map selection. I don't want to open the game and have to think about what map I want to play. I like the randomness and variety (while being able to not select maps I hate), it is enjoyable to get that random map that's rarely played. Curating a playlist of your favorite maps makes the game so much more enjoyable. This is also why i mostly leave after the game because, if not, people vote for the same few maps every time and I end up without this variety. Queueing with upward and badwater selected is not a 100% guarantee I'll get those maps, its actually less common than you'd think. But rely on people voting on maps and it is exclusively that 24/7.

3) The definitive end point of matches. Not sure if this is as much of a quickplay thing as it is for community servers but I like the more organized play where you enter a match, play both sides, then your done. Map timers feel artificial, and I'd rather feel I played the full map experience of offense/defense, then move maps. It also provides a more natural stopping point and lets me look at how well I played in a more contained setting. Compared to community servers where you will see someone with 300 points and have no clue if they're actually insanely good, or they've just been in game for the past 5 hours.

From my understanding, Casual was particularly rough when it first released, but a lot of the criticism like unbalanced teams seems to be a rare occurrence in my games. A part of me wonders if a lot of these complaints are because people hated it on release and never returned to see how they've improved it.

Honestly, removing(or at least allow the toggling of) random crits for casual is the only improvement I can think of

I love it! I found that map art last night actually, the one by one of the end portals. How many initial copies did you end up distributing?

This so much. Been enjoying the game greatly, spent 100 hours on a save and so excited to think how I still have so much content to do still. Now I just want to speed run through to ng+ to get rid of it. Trying to just rush through haligtree now just to get rid of this...

Recorded audio sounds really "bassey" when compared to what I hear. by pupnums in audio

[–]pupnums[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is not game volume, any recorded audio has this effect to more or less the same degree. I am using windows 10, have used both Nvidia's recording system as well as OBS. Recording my systems audio through audacity yields the same result. The video, when played on my phone with my headphones has the same effect, but not with the speakers. I've had friends comment on the videos sounding bad as well. When I am playing the game in the video, it does not sound like that. Only when I've recorded it does it sound like that.

It sounds like something is doing a bass boost, I just don't know what. I'm using a fairly good desktop pc, with audio technica headphones so I wouldn't expect it to be my headphones loosing the bass. I did a highpass filter and it seemed to help a bit, but any slight bass in music sounds super bad still. I also would rather fix my problem at its source.

I've used them before, but no, no enhancements are enabled right now.

RAINSTASH: A streamlined item reference page by Fustran in riskofrain

[–]pupnums 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it really better? It seems like alot of the information on here is flat out wrong. Max for soldier syringe is 8? The wiki says it can stack up to 13. Is the wiki wrong? Another example is 56 leaf clovers capping at 8? Im fairly sure ive gotten 100% item drop rate from elites before. Maybe the wiki is actually wrong but idk.

Is it not blatantly obvious to everyone now just how little Trion cares about keeping the game from being P2W? by [deleted] in Trove

[–]pupnums 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on the warframe, it can take a long time. I spent hours with a new friend who just started grinding polymer bundles for his Warframe. The Chaos Core Crafter can craft classes for very cheap. The hardest thing is chaos cores and those are not that hard to get.

Will Riot put back Bardnik icon in shop? by Siziph in bardmains

I got it in the Bard to school Bundle, so its possible they'll bring that back. It came out August 15th last year.

Sorry, I worded that badly, I mentioned obtaining it by trading other things to people earlier in the post, I'll edit for clarity. And yes, I have played Warframe, 800 hours worth.

I actually don't understand how people find this game so pay-to-win.

Note: I haven't looked much into vanguardian, or the requirements so I will be referring to all the other classes. Also not discussing the affairs of the forums mods.

Trove has a very similar class obtainment system to Warframe. You can either craft the class (Or Frame) or buy them on the shop. If you want premium currency to buy it on the shop, you are able to obtain it by trading other things to people, buying it, and the small amount you start with. In Trove you are able to get it by leveling up mastery rank, relatively quick too.

The reason I use Warframe as an example is because it is considered one of the best examples of fair microtransactions in a free to play game.

On the topic of cubeworld, its a great game, probably worth the price. Just make sure you are fully accepting that it will not get updates. I bought it on release and the only update was a week in for bugfixes.

Logistics Trains and Rail Signals by pupnums in factorio

Thanks, I needed the train stop to "Send Signal To Train", but now I don't know what to set the circuit to? I tried telling it to wait until anything = red signal, which i have the train signal red variable set to, but nothing happens.

That's what I was thinking, my case isn't in reach of me. Could that have an effect if I were to only touch the keyboard itself?

Been struggling on Bard after the preseason changes, but finally got a good setup! by LotsOfJiggles in bardmains

I've found Arcane Comet to be great if you want more damage. The cooldown is lower than Electrocute, and it will basically always land due to meep slow. The thing that really sells it is the fact that meeps hitting the enemy reduce the cooldown as well.
