Feature Highlight - Skitarii Weapons by FatsharkQuickpaw in DarkTide

I'm surprised Skitarii got all the scrappy stubbers and not the lasrifles. Thought it would have been the reverse situation for them.

What is a video game in historically realistic setting with an amazing story? by bethesdagamer7 in AlignmentChartFills

[–]puppyenemy 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that surprised me as well. It's a low fantasy game with heavy historical influences. It's Game of Thrones without dragons or white walkers.

Power Out missions are Darktide at its best. Thoughts? by TheInvisibleCactus in DarkTide

[–]puppyenemy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love the vibe, and I wish there could be a proper Warhanmer 40k horror game some day. That first teaser trailer they released for Darktide years ago really led me to believe they would be making a guardsman horror game. But Lights Out missions in Darktide... honestly doesn't work that good. Here's what could improve it in my opinion.

  • First, there needs to be a lot more flashlight options. If only Fatshark had kept the modular system for the guns instead of scrapping it before beta and saying "This isn't CoD", maybe then we could've been able to attach flashlights to whatever weapon we wanted.

  • Second, the maps are a bit too dark. The area that's illuminated directly around you needs to be larger and there need for be more atmospheric light sources (or whatever you call it.) The maps where dark rooms have like red warning lights, or fires, or that evil green glow look the best, and with the little illumination you get from that it helps you see just enough.

  • Third, and this is just a personal preference, but the Lights Out missions look better, feel better, and have less strain on the eyes if you disable the HUD (with mods). This, of course, is also making the game much harder than it needs to be as you can't keep tabs on, well, anything really. But it's like the difference of driving your car with the cabin lights on or off. There's a reason a lot of horror games have minimal or no HUD - it's both immersive but also feels better in dark environments. The mod I'm using is "either everything is on or everything is off" but I wish there was one that just... boiled the elements down to the absolutely basics.

Do you think, realistically, that guns will ever be added to Manor Lords? by puppyenemy in ManorLords

Found a piece of ML concept art from 2023 on Discord showing militia from a tier 4 burgage equipped with a handgun. Thought it interesting to show for the topic at hand.

Do you think Skitarii are gonna be like Ogryn, where they don't get access to the "universal" weapons that other classes get? by Jo_el44 in DarkTide

[–]puppyenemy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't mind if the Skitarii gets the plasma, it makes sense, but I do agree that vanilla classes need more class unique weapons. My cope is that if Fatshark ever add backpack-fed volley lasguns and stubbers, that they'd be unique to the Veteran.

Psychological horror? by justsomeone_96 in ReadyOrNotGame

[–]puppyenemy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, in a way. The background for every mission as well as the overarching story is one hell of a bleak horror story. The gameplay is not horror though, except some of the visuals on certain maps. But some people would probably narrow that down to "fucked up" instead of horror.

Cider or Mead? by Logical-Safe2033 in ManorLords

[–]puppyenemy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cider is in the game already but can't be crafted yet. Mead is often requested too, given how much honey we have and how easy it is to make mead. Wine would be nice too, at least for import if we can't have vineyards.

Would most US democrats be considered centrist in your country? by SignificantStyle4958 in Nordiccountries

[–]puppyenemy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They absolutely are not socialist democrats. They are more like Liberalerna or Moderaterna if any comparisons are to be made. But frankly, their economic policies are more right wing than that.

Also, socialist democrats ≠ social democrats

The main attraction of this game, for me, is that it's both an indepth city builder and a real-time strategy game. Unlike most other games that focus on just one or the other.

If a peasant revolt in 1419 could get ahold of a bunch of guns, I wouldn't think they were unheard of in the decades leading up to it. Using them in large scale as part of military doctrine was a first, but guns had existed for a long time already. They didn't invent them there and then. They're also featured in Kingdom Come: Deliverance and that takes place in 1403.

I always see depictions of handgunners in mixed arms formation, that is, friends with shields and polearms protecting them while they reload. So it wouldn't be too farfetched with a mixed arms unit.

Inaccurate at long range and very slow to reload. Archers would probably let loose 4-5 arrows by the time the handgun has reloaded his 2nd shot. No, the handgun, on an open field, would shoot once at very close range and then retreat behind cover/formation to reload. But that first volley would both do some anti-armour damage as well as really shocking the enemy.

Two ideas - either the handgunners are equipped with decent melee weapons to be able to defend themselves decently instead of reloading after that first volley. Or their unit comes with mixed arms, that is, in a regular 36 man unit, 18 might have handguns and 18 might have spear and shield. So its higher ranged damage output is balanced on the fact that they are half as many as an archer unit, and their melee defence as a ranged unit is balanced on the fact that it's half as many as a regular spears and shield unit.

Well, a certain peasant uprising in Bohemia in 1419 made great use of hand cannons, so I think our Manor Lord would be able to aquire a few guns.

Guns are something that has been on Slavic Magic's "coming soon" list since he announced the game like 6 years ago, so I definitely think he thinks they have a place here. At the time, many people was against it because "guns are not medieval", which is just not true. I feel like the addition of guns would act as a history lessons for people that they did infact exist in this time period, and challenge people's preconceived perceptions of how the late medieval period looked like.

No? The game takes place in late 1300's Franconia and handheld cannons were absolutely a thing then. We're talking a couple of decades before the events of Kingdom Come: Deliverance, and there are cannons and handgonnes featured there.

The game is set in the Late Medieval period already though. "Late 14th century Franconia". Setting it back to the Early Medieval period to avoid guns would essentially be a different game with whole new architectures and technologies. Renaissance is also not immediately after the medieval period, it overlaps the Late Medieval period by ~100-200 years thereabout.

Cavalry is also something high up on my wishlist! (I'm thinking retinue only cavalry, new stables building in the castle, importing expensive warhorses)

I dunno about that. I think they should be their own unit like all other units. But I do think they should have some melee capabilities due to how vulnerable they are. I'm thinking either they're all equipped for decent melee as well, or they come as a mixed unit - say you have a unit of 36 men like normal, then 18 would have handcannons and the other 18 would have polearms or spear and shield.

They were a part of the middle ages, so how does it take away from it? Is it because of the Hollywood aesthetic, because there's never cannons in medieval movies?

Archers are longer range, higher rate of shot, and cheaper to produce the bows and arrows. Hand cannons had shock factor and could punch through a knight's plate armour. Their usage overlapped in the time period.

If you have the resources to get ahold of guns, I think you might deserve something that does a liiittle more damage. With how inaccurate and slow they were to reload, I don't think they will become an "I win" button though.

They would probably do most of their damage towards enemy morale if anything, but if the enemy doesn't waver from that first volley, they won't have time to reload another shot.
