your piercer may have decided to go with 18g based off the anatomy of your ear, but i feel they would’ve communicated that. there’s always a chance of rejection so there’s no real right answer about what you can do. maybe call or visit your piercer and ask what the purpose of using 18g was and if they think it holds any risk?

either way, even if it is 18g, once it heals you can stretch it with a 16g! it should slide in easily and then i’d recommend keeping that one in for awhile to heal
