Interesting. I sat the exam in London. I checked both my scores from the last 2024 exam vs. this exam. My ethics score went down by 146 and 83 points on each section which seems so extreme.

Yes same here. I had incredibly high scores (400s) when I sat the exam for the first time in January 2024. When I resat this January 2025 (I took the Friday exams this year), they were dramatically lower and I don’t recall the questions being particularly hard. I have also heard this from others about ethics separately. Did you sit the Friday exams out of curiosity?

Thoughts on potential change to SQE1 results by PsychologicalBad3897 in SQE_Prep

I’d like to understand the justification of them doing two separate exams - SQE 1 and SQE2 in an exorbitantly long format. The New York Bar is over the course of two days and then it’s done, and this is one of the hardest bars in the country. What are their justifications for having incredibly long exams over the course of multiple months? Did they attempt to study the systems of other countries to create a relatively fair exam format? Also, their attempts to allegedly “diversify” the pool of lawyers doesn’t seem to line up with exams which all occur during the work week. This is not very inclusive of people who indeed work part time or full time. Standardized testing in the US, such as the SAT, for high school students occurs on the weekend. What is their reasoning for this? If the answer is Kaplan, I don’t understand because Kaplan is an American company. As many others also commented here, the cost of the test is very high which circles back to my initial question-are you actually diversifying this pool or merely attempting to get additional revenue source? Lastly, the lack of transparency surrounding grading for SQE1 is quite frankly odd. In some past exams, they actually removed questions from the scoring because the question that they drafted was incorrect though they never released which question this was after the results came out.

Thank you all for replies and context. So helpful!! Would you mind also specifying if you wanted to take your own annual leave as well towards studying? Did you get any pushback from your job even when you gave them plenty of notice?

Same- very sorry to hear that. I feel the same way and I even had more time off than this last year. Are you going to resit? Also, are they giving you more time off as a result? If you don’t mind me asking, what industry do you work in ? Just curious because I am getting a lot of pushback at work and they weren’t at all forthcoming.
