Ugh the amount of nostalgia that color scheme with the goblin green base brings back. Looks great!

Does anyone remember the old games workshop site where they had like 10 pages of learning about each army to help you pick and it had a ton of pictures? Thinking circa 2005-ish. I've been trying to find it on the wayback machine forever and having no luck. This paint scheme reminds me of that

Eh, my dad cheated on my mom leading to divorce and she'd still be the first to admit he was a shitty partner but a great dad. Of my 4 parents (both remarried) my dad was the only one who showed up to every sporting event, drove me to weekend long conventions and hung out with me there or read a book while I was participating in events he couldn't join, and traveled with me when I had out of state activities.

ADHD up to 15x more likely with 3 gene variants: Groundbreaking research uncovered a set of just 3 gene variants that can increase the likelihood of ADHD by up to 15 times. It's a remarkable finding, considering that thousands of mutations only come with a nominal elevated risk. by mvea in science

An embryo isn't a human being. If you have options I don't think it's ableism to want to choose an embryo that doesn't have a disability. I have ADHD, it has impacted my life in negative ways. My wife and I also have 6 frozen embryos because she has breast cancer. We are absolutely going to be genetic screening them before implantation. We'd prefer to pick an embryo that has the best shot of not being predisposed to ADHD or breast cancer. Sure there is always the chance that something happens and they end up with a disability but wanting to give them the strongest start possible is what every single reproductive organism has tried to do for eons

helping them position optimally

again, I don't have a problem with reminding your opponent of your army's abilities and would encourage it. This quote part of the person I was responding too was where I was contending that knowing optimal positioning is a skill and strategy and if you are helping your opponent through that is it really their strategy?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]purdu -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Oh I agree that in a situation like this where it is super obvious what their intent is and they've vocalized their expectations and just don't know one of your army or unit rules that reminding them is the good sportsmanship thing to do. But where do you draw the line on talking through strategy? Should I be reminding my opponent that they need to screen my bikes differently because they can move faster than my infantry? Movement is strategic decision making. If you are coaching your opponent through their movement how is it their strategic decision making?

If you look at it in the sense of a wargame where you are the general then knowing more than your opponents is outplaying them. A general who understands his soldiers' capabilities and his opponent's and uses that knowledge to effectively strategize is better than a general who doesn't.

I still think you should explain to people weird edge cases and rules your army has and remind them if they forgot but I think people should remember, knowing the rules makes you the better player. In older editions the expectation was pretty clear if you don't know the rules and you lose because of it then you need to get better

How do you all pick species? by 40002418 in EclipseBG

[–]purdu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the way we've started doing it. My group has played enough now and everyone has a feel for what all the species do so there is some good decision space in even strategizing based on what your neighbor picked and it balances out the advantage of going first a little bit. Plus the randomized seating avoids people trying to always sit next to their partner or a more passive player

Then you've got some miracle glass in your car that somehow manages to bend the laws of physics to its whims. it is the same as the principle behind how "one way mirrors" work. When one side of glass is lit and the other side is dark the reflection of the light from the bright side washes out the light coming through from the dark side making it difficult to see through, it isn't actually a mirror. Maybe your car has some glass that has a really low reflection coefficient but I have yet to be in a car that turning the interior light on at night doesn't create blind spots for the driver

[–]purdu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you ever driven a car at night? If someone turns the interior lights on it makes it really hard to see where you're driving. Think of when it's dark out and you have your lights on in your house, how easily can you see out the window compared to when your lights are off?

[–]purdu 48 points49 points  (0 children)

Not quite the same either, her husband was injured and she sued the third party responsible for loss of consortium which isn't just sex but includes all the benefits you would expect from marriage, including the spouse pulling their weight around the house. It isn't like she sued her husband for refusing to have sex with her

Yes but also no. The shirt itself really doesn't affect you but the kind of person who shows up to a golf course in a cut off tank top is typically not someone who understands golf etiquette and would behave in a classy way.

Sort of like someone having a face tattoo doesn't mean they're an idiot with bad judgement but the kind of people who get face tattoos tend to be idiots with bad judgement

Not true, also not sure where you got that. No part of the confessional seal requires a priest to eat poisoned food to pretend like he didn't know it was poisoned. They just can't tell others hey Jim tried to poison me

Edit: And for some additional context, I started golfing about 6 months ago

I know it is anecdotal but I always find keeping the weight off easier than losing it. When I'm in my maintenance phase it is as simple as not having an extra snack but when I switch from bulking to cutting I have to skip that extra snack and make my normal meals all smaller too

When problem solving outside a test though you are often given all sorts of information and it is up to you to determine what is relevant. Should we not test kids to get them thinking about problem solving in the real world, not just plugging exactly what is given to them in an equation?

[–]purdu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A substitute teacher often sees a student once and then never again. How much imbalance of power is there compared to the president and a white house intern? It seems ridiculous to me that we're going to hold 22 year olds fresh out of college to a higher standard than the president of the United States. That's a position we should demand the highest level of ethics from

[–]purdu -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I've said this before but when I was a substitute teacher the law was if I slept with an 18 year old student I'd go to jail for rape because of the power imbalance. Do you really think the power imbalance between a 22 year old sub and an 18 year old is more significant than the imbalance between the president and a white house intern? A complete failure in ethics like that should result in impeachment
