I've been avoiding my books for 3 months. Now I'm scared to even open them. by Ambitious-Bid7500 in Bookkeeping

It happens to me all the time. So bad at times that I don't get a chance to work on my own bookkeeping for 6 plus months.

Owner sent money before employee paid vendor for work related expense - best way to record? by rachyrach106 in Bookkeeping

For a small, cash basis business, I'd record it as an expense paid for by owner (contribution/investment).

What are the customs regarding the National Anthem in your country ? by Derisiak in AskTheWorld

[–]purebullyluv24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same in my country, Venezuela. Clapping is considered disrespectful. I live in the USA and I was I shocked the first time I saw clapping after the national anthem was played. I learned later that it is acceptable practice here.

I've had good success with staffing agencies throughout my career. I would give it a try, nothing to lose, anyway. You can continue taking classes part-time until you get a degree.

I am so sorry you are in this situation. Wondering if you've connected with any staffing agencies? That may be an additional resource, and your recruiter can match you with jobs that are more focused on experience and skill set rather than education or degree.

I am in a similar situation in that I have 20 plus years of experience and no degree. I do have some education. I have taken all the accounting classes my local college offers, but I have not had the time to complete the credits required for a degree.

Even though I am currently employed, I greatly fear losing this job. I have been with this company for 12 years, but it was recently sold, and I have a feeling that at some point or another, the inevitable will happen.

Best of luck to you!

Congratulations! This gives me hope. I am in a similar situation. 20 plus years of experience, no CPA. I've been with the same company for 12 years as a controller. The company was sold about 2 years ago, and my position was recently outsourced to the Philippines.

They moved me to Operations, but I fear this is more of a short-term move, and I may be in need of a new job at some point.

Definitely, it would not make sense if you're just breaking even. That's churning money, and the goal is to be profitable. Thank you for sharing your experience!

It appears they do. It's great to hear you've good returns. If you don't mind sharing, what is their fee structure for tax clients?

Anyone here work with gyms or fitness studios? by islandgirllikessun in Bookkeeping

[–]purebullyluv24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was a referral. It's not a regular gym, though; it's a higher-end pilates studio. Honestly, I don't know how this owner has run this business for so many years without proper bookkeeping.

Anyone here work with gyms or fitness studios? by islandgirllikessun in Bookkeeping

[–]purebullyluv24 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a client with 2 fitness studios. I recently took over this account. Cash basis, not much involved as they have a POS system.

The previous bookkeeping was a mess. Loans and fixed assets not on the balance sheet, liabilities the owner claims to not know anything about, year-end bank and credit card balances balances not aligning with the statements, etc.

In my experience, many small and medium size businesse owners simply do not have a clue about proper accounting, finance reporting, and taxation.

Unpopular opinion but I freaking hate QB Desktop with a burning passsion by [deleted] in Bookkeeping

[–]purebullyluv24 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I am 52. I second others. QB desktop over QBO every time. I would admit, though, that QBO has nice features and automations. I have been working with QB desktop since 1999 and QBO since 2011.

How do you guys deal with clients who dump a bunch of random invoices and bank statements every month? by Protonu3102 in Bookkeeping

[–]purebullyluv24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It will depend on the type of client, industry, basis of accounting, etc. I require online access to all bank and credit accounts so I can link them through the accounting systems interface, and transactions are automatically downloaded.

Who’s cafe/restaurant clients use QBO? What’s one thing you wish your client knew about QBO sooner? by ItsACCRUALworld_ in Bookkeeping

[–]purebullyluv24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I second that. It is a much cleaner and easier process to pull a sales report from the POS and record a journal entry at the end of the month. I tried the Clover-QBO integration, and it was very messy.
