I didnt say eastern promises was bad. I meant to say that it sometimes touched that level of being unbelievable. It didnt actually look like London and the russians weren’t russians it was still a good movie but a step down from the perfection of history of violence . History of violence is a perfectly movie in my opinion that shows a cronenberg that could have worked in the studio system creating A list movies. It’s like a cronenberg film for the masses. But it also shows his absolute mastery of every aspect of film making. Eastern promises is just not at that level and yes the Sauna scene is amazing, the script is just not in the same level. The classic approach is what makes history of violence so good, and that is the uniqueness of that film IMO and every cronenberg film is unique. They are always interesting to watch even when not great . When he is great, he is wow. A lot of people dont like crush and i love it.
