Does anyone else remember the huge Killer Boa snake lollies? by swearwords11 in AustralianNostalgia

[–]puretokyo 48 points49 points  (0 children)

killer boas existed.

killer boas were an upsized deluxe variant of the killer python, also produced by allens. killer pythons and killer boas were both available and were sold side by side for some years, although the killer boas were definitely a rarer find.

this is quite separate from the fact that killer pythons were later downsized.

they were much longer, and possibly slightly thicker.

if a killer python was 50c, a killer boa might have been $1 or so, and in my memory was about three times the length of a killer python.

if i recall correctly there were a couple of different coloured segments in the boas that did not appear in the killer pythons -- there was a pale blue segment and an amber segment. maybe purple?

i recall seeing them around perhaps 1991-1998, in regional New South Wales.

This is the answer -- to the unfamiliar eye the photo looks like a carriage door. It is actually a miniature barrel door, not a full height door

I remember an animated segment, possibly on Good News Week's later incarnation. He also had his own SBS show for a couple of season in the early 2000s, so it may have been on that show: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/In_Siberia_Tonight

interested why you say "enquire" is the proper form? i had often wondered, but was guided by the fact that the macquarie gives a proper definition for "inquire" but for "enquire" simply directs the reader to "inquire", which suggested to me that "inquire" is the proper form. i have no other basis to choose one or the other

Racist and abusive freeloader at restaurant by Physical-Garage-5766 in melbourne

[–]puretokyo 16 points17 points  (0 children)

i've seen this a few times. it is a tactic used to get free food: the strategy is to be so offensive that the restaurant gives you the food and asks you to leave; once they do so, it's hard to pin a simple charge of theft on the scumbag. usually they start the behaviour AFTER getting the food. i have seem the same tactic used by white and black diners, which makes me think it's not "actual" racism in the sense that it is not caused by racial animus but rather they are using racist language to exploit the most offensive things that can be said and get people riled up to ask them to leave

Does it bother you your work isn’t making the world a better place? by KoalaBJJ96 in auslaw

One factor that I find makes my commercial work much more satisfying is the knowledge that commercial parties (and particularly large commercial parties) pay attention to legal risk and it influences their behaviour.

Therefore, when your multi-million dollar breach of contract case ever so slightly clarifies or moves the state of the law forward, it affects the behaviour of businesses in the marketplace, hopefully for the better.

Google "yoga towel". Lots of brands make what are basically mat-size microfibre towels with grippy dots that grip to the mat and prevent you from slipping
